I would like to post a warning for those at Roehl and those considering Roehl who end up having to go for the test wether its for a d.o.t. physical or on your own..
Plan on taking at least 2 weeks off and if you come up positive on the test its an automatic 1 month- 2 month unpaid vacation for you. I have been told by drivers that have the disability ins it is controlled by Roehl and they will not payout on this( if I am wrong on this please let me know ).
I passed this years d.o.t test but the doc put on the card recommend
sleep test. Safety called me on this so I took a apnea link test that said I have it. I then had to take the big test. that is when I found out about the time off.
The 2 weeks are just for the test and waiting for the results if your lucky and don't have it you can go back out when you get the results, if you do have it its 2-3 more weeks off getting used to the machine then a new d.o.t phys even for the I/C.

I just wanted to put this out there and maybe you guys that also went thru this can confirm , I know with the new rules that came in november it may effect anyone who goes in for the d.o.t. now.

I would highly recommend if your considering a test to do it on your own accord and not after the d.o.t. says you have too, I searched around and found a test for 700$ rather than the 3500 the big hospital wanted.

I talked to safety about this several times and kept getting the same answer, there is nothing in the d.o.t rules saying you have to take anytime off, this is all Roehls policy.

Ya they are real good at misleading drivers by just giving part of the story. They act and will evan say that its DOT rule's when its there own thing. There's a really good reason that all the complaints about Roehl sound the same. The Company has it's good points but you have to watch them.

I guess that is another good thing about being a l/o. I am now responsible for getting my own physical and in my case my regular doctor is dot certified. I don't have to worry about a company doctor looking out for Roehl's interests instead of mine.

As for Roehl or any company for that matter they are really good about not telling you things and changing policies without notifying the drivers. Then they act like that is how it has always been. That is a major reason 90% of those who get a cdl are out of trucking entirely within two years.

Who knows, maybe these companies will pay for the test for you if you sign a 2 year employment agreement with them at .22 a mile. They do this allready for their CDL school why not for the test also? 3 years isnt that long to starve is it? (NOTE) I am not speaking about Roehl) I am just being a S.A.!

actually they finance the 2800 for the school, if you drive 120,000 miles with Roehl its written off, if you leave before that it is prorated based on the miles you did drive... mileage pay is .30 van, .32 reefer and .33 flat all with 6 cents added by the 1 year anniversary... there is no contract, just a loan agreement... good try tho

    That's what I'm going for.

To the OP, thanks for the heads up. I sleep pretty well at night, but who knows what's next?

Time off is Roehl's and several other companies policy. My start date for training was delayed for 2 months so safety could collect data from the cpap machine. You have to have i think 80% or higher compliance. It's a safety thing. If they know or suspect you need it they don't want you driving without it.

I just graduated RDTC (12/22/10) and paid cash for the school. They will still reimburse me at the above rate.
