Ive been Otr for a year now and have learned alot(and still have alot to learn) I am making .27 for every mile my truck turns and am allowed to choose my own routes to go around coops and whatnot.I get 15$ a pick and 15$ a drop and 25$ for tarping.I average 2800 to 3000 miles a week am home ever weekend and usually at least one nite a week.I like!!! I feel I am doing pretty well for myself but Im at the magic one year which will open new doors for me.I dont want to have my head turned by cpm numbers I dont understand,What does .27 hub miles equate to when figured using other methods? Also as a ray of hope to some folks out there I am a convicted felon(12 years old) Dont stop asking til someone says yes!

well it sounds to me like you are already doing ok for yourself......let's see

Home every weekend and at least an extra night per week...can't put a price tag on that
.27 a mile off the hub....well when you figure that hhg miles are close to 10% off the actual miles.....you'd have to get paid a pretty high cpm to make the same as the hub. Paid practical miles are around 5% off the actual.
Getting paid per stop extra and also for tarping pretty sweet deal there

I think I would be staying there...you sound like you like it and they treat you well so why jump ship, maybe you could ask about a raise, or wait to see if they are going to offer you one.

    Just saying driver

Sounds like a pretty good deal...
If you are happy with doing your own thing, and not getting micro-managed like many places, why change? With 1 year seniority, you are likely due for a pay raise...the cpm is not great, but the schedule seems pretty good for a comparative newbie!

Sounds like you are getting the miles, and time off. The grass isn't always greener on the other side. What flatbed company are you driving for? I would like to go flatbed. Company depends on some personal reasons, but SWIFT company training or Maverick, TMC, etc., after private school training are options I am looking at, sometime in late Feb/early March. I've been trying to get more information from SWIFT flatbed drivers. Schmud has been very informative.

I drive for a Salina Kansas based company called Bohm Farm and Ranch. Our mainstay is hauling crushed cars and scrap metal,Makes for some real ugly loads which is the only part I dont like about it.They also pay us 40$ a day per diem for everyday we turn in a logsheet paid once a month. Our dispatcher Paula is great and takes good care of her boys. You are right I do like it here but I have always been one to seek to improve myself.

Depending on the conviction type, that my limit you options with the bigger companies...a good oprion might be, now you have 1 year in the seat, is to find an operator with just a few trucks, and see if they will give you a try! Good Luck, and congratulations on your 1 st year!!

If the $40 a day per diem is on top of the $.27 per mile and stop and tarp pay, then going someplace else would have to pay that much better.
Many companies that pay per mile only pay loaded miles, and depending on how your current job pays actual miles would also make a sizeable difference.
