I drove for six months till June of last year and have a 1099 form to prove it. I had family issues that got resolved and went to work retail for the holiday season. I decided to quit and drive again.

When I posted, I didnt even see the US Xpress part of the heading. At one time I would have gone with USX from what I heard other drivers saying, especially in 2008 I heard a lot of USX drivers say they were getting 3000+ miles a week. But I recently heard that they make you team the first 6 months you are with them. I dont know if there is any truth to that or not. I know I would not want to team for that long w/a stranger.

The five months you were in training don't count...
The Challenger Thanks this. -
well i have heard from several US Express drivers that it sux nowadays with them...I personaly like ther trucks for the exception of automatics..Werner I always liked there trucks..I have talked to a few of there city/regional drivers that they love werner...Swift hmm Well I have heard nothing but bad about them And thats all I can say about that...Now as far as knowing about these companies personaly I can honestley say I know nothing!.....Just do you're homework and get everything in writeing..if they make a fuss about it then walk away..!

KH,
Search safersys.org enter palm bay,
there's a few to call maybe !!
You'd be happier getting home more often, do as you suggested, call Sunco. They have some fleet owners that may need a good hand. Exxact also, I worked for both of those places, they treat you good !!
Maybe run an ad like you did before.
You 've been around here a long time, forget those mega-rip-offs.
Good Luck !!!
You'll choose the right one..........The Challenger Thanks this. -
Here is the short and the long of it Hunter. IMO good you have the 3 months of OTR. I call it 3 because you were team. You were in a different world altogether than the world you're wanting to go into.
O/O's have little to do with big companies. Like I said on the phone (don't get offended) you don't know how to go solo, run a Qualcom, and deal with the corporate BS.
Get off your pride and believe this. A couple of weeks training ain't gonna kill you. Hopefully you get a decent trainer. You have to learn the megacarrier ways of business.
You seem Hell bent and insulted that you don't need to train with a mentor or trainer. Just because a stupid recruiter told you you don't need to go with a trainer doesn't mean you don't.
I have "mentored" several drivers for Swift that got less than adequate survival skills from their trainer. AND I AM TALKING ABOUT ONE THAT HAD 2 YEARS OTR WITH SCHNEIDER! I get calls from them thanking me.
I can spot them from across the parking lot. I find out what their problems are and offer things that worked for me.
I am old school. I will offer to help any driver that needs it. And yes, I don't know it all.The Challenger and jtx87 Thank this. -
Whatever you do I would put Werner right at dead bottom! I worked for Western Express back in 2004 and stayed there till 2008. I never had any problems with them. I was treated good and made good money. I drove flatbed for about 6 mos, but went over to the van's because of the low miles I was getting, around 1600 miles a week. Once I switched to Van's I had no problems with getting miles. The only reason I got done was for a better job running chips from N.H., MA, up to Lac-Megantic QC. Which takes me past the house up in Maine everyday. With Werner,,, there trucks might look good but the company is not. Just read the posts on them, there all true. I worked for them back in 1999 and not much has changed I can see. Ask A Werner driver about the red, yellow and green dot system the have in place. When you start there your a green dot, which means you don't get many miles. You will make more in training. Once your a red dot then you get miles you can live on. That's just one thing with many more story's to be told. Good luck in whatever you do, just hang in there.
