Trust me when I say pulling chemicals is like night and day from freight. The consignees treat you with respect. Most of the time they unloaded my trailer while I sat in the drivers room drinking coffee. It takes a special breed of driver (insane mostly) to pull a shotgun tank with hazmat chemicals in it.If I was a young man again I would be doing it,but now that I am old and decrepit I haul gas and go home at night.I know some will disagree, but I think pulling tankers is the best job period.

I enjoyed my few years with Schneider. You can read about my experiences here:

It is probably best to read it from oldest (2003) post to newest. When I left, I was making $0.42/mi with all bonuses, and was home every other weekend. My last paycheck was in early October 2005: for Jan-Sep (9 months), I made $35k. We only ran 8 hours a day.

Well, I can tell ya that LAnton is right!
I was leased to SNI for a couple years and know how they were then. It's not SNIs fault I bought a NEW truck and then decided to run under my own authority. No companies I know of right now are better, and not many as good. I was also a "carrier" for SNI among others, and none were as hassle-free. None!
SNI trucks don't sit if the driver has available hours! edit...back in 2000 when a SNI truck was in an area where there wasn't any freight, they deadheaded that truck to the nearest load. (Hope that's still true) That's a biggie, & the "punkin'patches" (terminals) are great! Actually as I type this I'm looking real hard at another lease with SNI. Good luck!

Not in all cases & I'm sure you didn't mean it that way. I've lived in Georgia the last 20+ years before moving out west. I made great money there in real estate & the grading & underground utility for commercial development. When the economy tanked we went from 70 employee's down to 18 in a span of six months. The debt load was crushing & the GC's/Developers stopped paying the monthly draws and banks had quit loaning or even refinancing. Long story short damage control dictated we sold everything business wise, with the economy, at a loss & folded.

I still own a house there that is worth less than what I bought it for 10 years ago. My daughter remained as she is attending the University getting her degree.

We moved out west as Internet research showed statistically it was much better for my line of work. Maybe much better, but it still went over like a lead balloon. After nine months of no income & depleting our savings I climbed back into a truck. I hadn't done that since the 90's. I tell you it is much more tolerable now that the kids are grown.

Soon we intend on starting with one truck & growing from there.

I think every company should do this, do you really want a crack head at the wheel of one of these things next to you doing 70mph. Or behind your wife and kids on a wet road.

I was a company driver for about a year , Then bought a truck and leased it on at SNI i have no complaints. I got all the miles i could leagaly run and made good money there as a o/o . Due to reasons at home i had to come off the road and deal with or i would proably still be there. No company is perfect just like no employee is ,Its all what you make out of it. If you hunt for the worst in a company guess what your going to find it!!!! But with a open mind and just get up stay out of the truck stops you can make a good living there.... Most people that compain on this web site and i did say most not all, Are the same ones that when a load comes over the computer are calling complaing that its not the perfect load or not enough miles on it, They just don't understand sometimes you have to take bad loads to get to the good ones. I can honestly say i had more good than bad there .... I would go back with them in a second. Im not trying to bash anyone here just telling my two cents worth. And thats about what its worth ,LOL

You could move down here to FL and have the same experience except be warm. :biggrin_25517:

Just kidding actually. Went to Camden, ME for our honeymoon. It was fantastic. I love Maine and what a beautiful state. I just don't want to drive a rig there in January. :)
