...it's inventory tax time...having some trouble in certain zones finding an available empty trailer? that's because the inventory has been loaded onto a trailer and is "in limbo" as far as inventory tax is concerned!
I suppose when there is an overabundance of EMPTY TRAILERS its SAILBOAT FUEL TAX TIME.
just rocked the boat

You get audited by safety and that truck isn't where your log says it was? Falsifying logs is serious!
Tell your DM to put EVERYTHING ON THE QUALCOM!! If they try to get you to run illegall tell them you will call safety and get their OK. That will shut the DM up!
Dude, I am lucky as I maintain a friendship with my mentor. He is #### good. I also have a friend who has been OTR since '84.
I hope you don't log the actual time you sit at a shipper. Live load or drop and hook in my world only takes 15 minutes. The rest of it is on line 1.
Did you talk to your mentor about this?
I would have gone to the shipper and worked on a solution after it was loaded. Having the DM msg the CSR about parking is a great idea. Been there done that several times.
I have met several newbies out there that aren't prepared.
Hang in there and do the right thing. -
This is a common problem that will probably slow down with CSA2010. Many dispatchers will figure how much time it will take to get to a shipper or receiver. They think it's okay to run out of hours on a dock and will push a driver to do so. The safety guy will differ but won't step in until after the fact.
As with the driver and company, a customer can be held responsible for a wreck and face a lawsuit if they kick a driver off their property when they are out of hours. They are part of the problem.
The company I work for has no regards for hours and expect you to do worse things. So fudging to me on dock time breaks is a minor thing that you can easily get away with. I can't count the times I've loaded/unloaded past the 14th hour.
Legally, it is wrong and maybe if enough drivers stand up with the stiffer laws, dispatchers and customers might start being a little more accommodating. After all that's the real problem. They are content and expecting with the old ways of doing things. CSA2010 is going to make everyone think differently and adapting will take time. One day dispatchers might operate with compliance in mind.scottied67 Thanks this. -
Does anyone have a swift workers comp horror story? I've worked for swift for a year now and in september tore a disc in my back. I've gotten nothing but a big run around and have been forced to hire an attorney. I really dont know why they would choose to treat me this way, they are saying I quit my job before I was injured. I busted my butt for swift 100% on time no accidents and put up with tons of stupidity and spent many a day in a truck stop sitting waiting for some planner to figure out why he gave me a wrong pickup # or some simular crap. My doc says a simple procedure and 4 to 6 wks of healing and I should be back to work, seeing how they know the truth I cannot for the life of me figure why they would choose a long legal fight instead of just doing the right thing. I have always been a hard worker and an honest man and have never in my 55 yrs had to deal with anything like this. If anyone has a story like this I would appreciate hearing it, it may show some sort of pattern. Thanks for your time. simper fi

Once the freight is recorded onto the manifest, the system has removed it from the shippers inventory....the drivers signature only shows receipt of pick-up, not ownership!

It's one thing to agree to move one hour away with two left on the clock and then get a case of the f***its. It's another to be held up en route due to weather, accidents, traffic and illness. I think you're missing that point.

I'm finished adding fuel.
All I can do is go off my own experience. I cannot speak to the experiences of others. Nor can I tell anyone else what to do, how to do it or what to think about it. I can only make suggestions based on my own perspective. Go ahead and pick me apart. It won't change my life experience.Last edited: Dec 29, 2010

Hello,
I'm a newbie, and learning but... How is it not illegal to be on line 4 past the 14 hrs? If I am right you can drive 11 hrs.. but can only be "on" duty for 14.. anything past is HOS violation.. right?
Again... I am a newbie, and dont know if I am right, or wrong.. I am just trying to learn.. -
