Ronin I'm a one horse operation now and it's been twenty five years or so since I've hired any drivers but I would probably hire you. I too wear starched wranglers and boots.Let me tell you a little story, years ago I pulled for C&H Trans. out of Dallas,Tx. we were the biggest heavy haul outfit at the time. There was another outfit called J.H. Rose and every driver that I ever seen there wore starched Wranglers, light or white long sleeve western shirts, and boots, pulling flats, drops, etc. includes getting dirty, but after loading or tarping they would take a shower and be right back in those starched clothes and looking good. To this very day I have tried to look as good as they did, and set a good example as an American trucker and hope I always can. Your my kind of people ole son.

Back in the old days drivers weren't even allowed in the building at most companies.

    Some are still that way.

I think the signs are in poor taste. Businesses are forgetting that success is built on teamwork... and you have to allow some socializing to build rapport among employees -- particularly between management and non-management personnel. It's harder to respond inappropriately to someone with whom you've developed a friendship (even in passing) than someone who's a nameless, faceless number or a job title.

Having said that, though, companies cannot allow off-the-clock employees to involve working employees in lengthy personal conversations. The office staff has work to do. If people are lingering too long, then I'd suggest removing all excess chairs from the office and teaching the staff how to politely direct a conversation to a close.

But signs? Nah... They send the wrong message.

    Back to the point....

I think the signs are "poor taste".
If I worked for that company I think the first time one of those office chokes came in to the drivers lounge or out in the lot talking to them selfs (ok talking on their bluetooth cell phones) I'd remind them that "this is not an office" Please take your business else where!

"Will Kill For Food"---bwahahahahahahaha!!! Perhaps for pleasure in this case... sounds like the kind of company that'll go under in this economy, if it hasn't already tanked. And good riddance... :biggrin_25523:

Well, if that's the attitude of drivers to office folks, then I can understand the signs better. I wouldn't want to be talkin' with ya', either. :biggrin_25523:

We can only speculate as to why the signs were posted, but respect runs both ways. Someone has to take the first step, otherwise "office chokes" and "lazy-azzed drivers" will continue to keep the drivers out of the office and rest room facilities and office staff turning their noses up to drivers.

I have worked at 5 companies that did not want the drivers in their buildings except to drop off paperwork. Otherwise, stay out. One had security as well.

One company I worked at felt that the drivers were the real reason they had jobs and it showed. Landstar.

It makes me wonder why companies don't want drivers in their buildings. Even as a company who only receives from the big trucks, we allow those drivers access to our rest room facilities, lunch room, and if it's we're having a potluck or pizza lunch, they're invited to grab a bite to eat while we're unloading their truck or before they head back out. We have no problem with drivers and they seem to have no problem with us.

However, if we would start to find the rest rooms a mess... someone taking a five-finger discount on some of the merchandise as they pass through the our warehouse... or a driver making a crude comment to/about one of our lovely, young ladies (of which we have quite a few!), then I have no doubt we'd place some access restrictions.

I suspect what happened at some of these companies is that some low-life driver/s ruined it for the rest of you guys. Otherwise, I can't imagine a company limiting employee access to an otherwise non-restricted building.

No. I believe these companies clearly were scared of the drivers and the way they treated them.

One company restricted the drivers to restrooms that closed when the building locked at 5 and they had to remain in their trucks with no facilities.

The problem is that the "people" in the office clearly acted like they were better than the drivers who they felt were scum of the earth.

I heard at one company coming out of the room where they kept blank logbooks some of them discussing how they could restrict the driver access more because they did not like any of them and felt they should not be allowed in the building. These people looked worse than some of the lizards I would not allow around my truck. Let alone want to even talk to.
