from what i have read on tmc's website they do require drivers to obtain a u.s. passport a twic card plus a haz mat end. on their cdl.

i read this direct off of tmc's website back in the spring of 2009.

my family friend went into an absolute fit with his dispatcher over him obtaining these three items after 30 days in his own tractor.

so needless to say it was easier for him to quit then obtain these three items to keep his job.

    country 77,

i am just going off of what i read off of the tmc website from back in the spring of 2009 in reguarding a passport twic and haz mat.

i do not see how an employee of a company-(that would be you)-tell your dispatcher or any other person in this company you will not obtain something with the attitude of "i don't care i ain't getting it and you can't make me"

plus i still do not see how you could also refuse a dispatch into any providence within the country of canada and still keep your job!-(are you regional line or a long haul line driver)

a family friend of mine and his dispatcher plus other within tmc were at blows because he would not accept the fact that tmc was going to require him to obtain these three items as a condition of employment.

Heck, I don't even have a driving job yet (new CDL holder) and the first thing I did was get every endorsement there was when I started my venture, except for busses n passengers stuff, and I also sent in apps for Fast card and Twic card.....
I figure the more stuff I have already in hand, the better my chances of jobs..

Yea there web states it but I think its for mostly new. Drivers to the company sure they want everyone to have it. But I don't think countrys dispatcher has forced the issue now saying that its not to say they wont force it but as of now they really ain't on older employees they has recommeneded it and told everyone they need it. But country may not be home enough to have gotten it. All he probably will get a twic and passport but I doubt he will ever get a haz mat. Because of personal reasons per military.and his dispatcher knows this reason.I believe and some you people need to know country before you jump to judge him

besides the fact that obtaining both of these items is the most time consuming and very costly to the driver.

i just think country 77 had the attitude i ain't going to do it and you can' make me do it plus it looks like he got away with it (granfathered in or not) it fumes the snot out of me he got away with it and he kept his job also.

my friend thumper rabbit who drove for tmc for one load knew he was going to have to obtain both of these items on the front end after he completed orientation and training, he was just to lazy to do it and i know for a fact he was beyond broke at the time he went to work for tmc.

I am new to this discussion and for that matter new to TMC. I have completed the orientation, 5 weeks with a trainer and have run 7 weeks on my own. To this point, I have had no requests either formal or informal to get these certifications/paperwork. With that said, there is no way for me to determine if this will be asked of me in the future. If I am asked, I will have no problem obtaining these since as it was pointed out, TMC does disclose this as a requirement for employment. As far as cost(s) to me vs. payback via TMC, there are certification points that apply towards your percentage(if you go the percentage route) that will possibly enable you to make a bit more per week. Notice I said per week, not per Hazmat load, not per port load. Country77 has clearly been with TMC a while and quite possibly has been grandfathered in, thus making these certifications/paperwork a nonissue to him.

when i worked for tmc back in the late 1990's if i has countrys77 attitude i am betting tmc would have fired me rather quickly.

i have worked with several people in several industries who have a similar attitides like countrys77 and it fumed me that people like him who stood up to the boss and the company and got away with doing it while if i did it i got in the most trouble when i stood up to the boss and the company.

i would have loved to have told my fleet manager no not going into canada why is my answer no simple i do not want to.

when i first started to drive in the middle 1990's for werner a haz mat was required and thank god i had it.

i think country77 just has a big and bad atitude and a very big ego fine that is all on him but i think sooner or later tmc will send him into canada if he is willing to go or not and i would bet $1,000.00 sooner or later he will have to obtain a haz-mat a passport and a twic if he wants to or not and if he wants to keep his job plus support his wife and six kids.

    drive safe and stay safe.

I must have misread the title to this thread. I thought the discussion was first and foremost about TMC's required HazMat, Passport & TWIC, which is what I primarily tried to address.

I wasn't really addressing Country77's perspective on the subject, and certainly don't presume to know enough about him to say anything about how wonderful or how crappy his attitude may or may not be. I am not really sure why it is so important to you? If his "big and bad attitude" gets him fired, so be it. If not, who really cares. I know I don't and I guess I'm a co-worker of his! More loads for me!!!
