Thanks for this.
I've been in the process of making a major decision in the life of me and my family, and I have been struggling with it. I won't bore anyone with what it is, other than to say that a truck is one of the many parts of it.
Your video made some very valid points, several of which dealt with what I am in the process of going through, and helped me greatly in finally making my decision about what path to take for the future.
So, thanks for making a difference in my life.

My city laws are basically along these lines BUT, I am allowed to bring the rig to the driveway but anything over
8 tons cannot be parked overnight, even in the driveway. Now, take that one step further...my subdivision has it's own little sign..
"WEIGHT LIMIT 3 TONS".
So I called the city. No waiver. No permit available. However the city told me unless a resident complains, they won't enforce it.
I went to each and every resident in my part of the subdivision and asked them BEFORE even attempting to park it in my driveway.
All of them told me they had no issues and were surprised I even asked them about it.
It has been in my driveway almost every weekend this entire summer and for a total of 12 days when the alternator failed
and I couldnt fire it up. The closest I got to a ticket was when I saw a cop turn around in my driveway.
I held my breath until he left.
By the way, I would checkout alternate parking. I have 2 lots I can park at and they only cost me $50 or $75/mo (depending)
and thats where I always keep it unless I am working on her....
But yea, just the other side of my subdivision is a gawd awful looking Winnebago motorhome....sorta like this:

PS. Maybe bringing the rig home that late at night finally caused someone to snap?
I never fire it up before 7am and always get it in the drive before 9pm, or it goes to the lot instead...I don't want
my neighbors calling the PD. I would hope they would come to me first but who knows?!Last edited: Dec 30, 2010

Years ago I was visiting an older friend and his wife... and they were discussing one of his neighbor's request for a zoning exemption to permit him to start a small business on his property. They lived in an area where most homes sat on an acre or more of land. Herb, himself, probably owned ten or twelve acres.
It's one of those days that I remember clear as a bell. Herb, his wife, and I were sitting at the table having a cup of tea while we watched the dogs chase each other around the kitchen. He opened and read the letter from the township and said without hesitation that he wasn't going to put up any fuss. Herb turned to me with that look that said, "Young lady, I'm going to pass on some advice here"... and said, "If I wanted to control what transpires on that property, I should have purchased it." To him, his property was his business, and your property was yours.
It's really that simple. Why in the heck did we stray from that???

God bless you brother and your family. My town has a similar by-law. Even though when my truck is at the house it is at the back of the lot, away from the street. There is a lot a few km's away I can park at, many of us do. Problem is that I then have to wake someone up to either come get me or take me back to the truck when I leave in the morning. My truck is quieter than 50% of the cars and pickups that drive our road. Yet, it is a truck and cannot be at my house. MY HOUSE, the one I PAY insane taxes to the town for. We are saving and working on finding a piece of land out in the country to get away from the BS of the town office. It wasn't too bad when we moved here but has gotten worse over the last 5 or 6 years.

Well said Chris, now if everybody would stand up and start paying attention to whats happening to our country. We might actually make it.

First I want to say your wife is the luckiest woman in the world. You are 100% correct and I agree with everything you said. Ive had similar incidents happen over the years. My problem is I run my mouth and almost get arrested, Whats wrong is wrong and Im not backing down. Id be pissed too that your "neighbor" didnt have the ba*** to come knock on your door. I wish I could put your video on my facebook page. I wish all the best to you and your family.

I have no issue with you putting it on your facebook page; many already have. Just go to the YouTube page and click 'share' to add it to facebook. Thanks for the kind words. I'll definitely be passing your words on to my wife!!annettecj Thanks this.

I know were you are coming from. I was doing a run that took me close to home every night. I could have parked my truck at the yard but it was ten miles away and did not make sense to burn up the extra time to drive back to the yard in the morning and get the truck. I was empty so I brought it home. It was summer time so there was no need to run the truck for anything. It was a quiet volvo also. Well it was late enough so I just parked in front of my house. I live in a small town and away from the main part of town in a quiet neighborhood with little to no traffic. I was always gone early enough so that the truck was not in the way in the morning.
Well the third morning I got out to the truck and there was a ticket. I called later that day and had a chat with the chief. I know him well as I ride motorcycle with him. We chatted a bit and he just said it was too long. I asked him why a guy two blocks over can park his 4 quad axle beet trucks (farm truck) bumper to bumper on the street. He is a custom hauler during suger beet harvest. I lost the argument. We went into a discussion about just the tractor and he was not going to let me even bring that home due to weight reasons, that is until I pointed out to him that them farm trucks with their large steel boxes, weigh more then my truck/tractor. Well I ended up winning that one and can bring my tractor home if I want. the neighbors across the street, don't like it but they can not do anything about it. I don't bring it home very often though unless I am going to do some house cleaning and polishing on it. -
Chris, if you ran for president, I'd vote for you. Seriously.
It's too bad I'm in a crappy service area and couldn't watch the whole video... but the message is clear in just the few minutes I could watch.
I too have been a victim of a pinhead neighbor. They called the city on me because of my ugly, rusty old van I had parked in the driveway--said it was unregistered (it was registered AND insured). The city sent me a nice letter saying that I had 10 days to remove the van from the driveway or be fined. They never actually came to check the registration.
I sent the city back a nice letter with a copy of the registration and insurance. I told them that seeings how my snooty neighbors didn't like my rusty old van, perhaps they would care to buy me a shiny new one, since I couldn't afford it myself.
Thankfully now I live in the sticks--if I want a rusty old van up on blocks in my front yard, I can do that. And if I wanted to drink a beer and piss off my front porch, I could do that too--without reprisal.
