Injun, you almost hit the nail there.
The root of all evil in the trucking industry rests on two pillars-
1. The lack of serious training & licensing standards for drivers.
2. The exemption of interstate truck drivers from the Fair Labor Standards Act.
If we had proper licensing standards Dick might not even be driving and #### sure wouldn't be training. If you mixed in overtime pay we could do away with a lot of other BS, like a lot of HOS issues.
I would also note, for the benefit of all you screaming libertarians out there, that the above is a FAILURE to regulate, not a problem of excess regulation. Or, thinking about it for a moment longer, what we have done is place the burden of both the regulations, or the lack thereof, all on the the drivers, who are at the bottom of the socioeconomic pyramid, leaving them (us) to bear the cost while lacking the political or economic power to change them.
Which should come as little surprise from a country that will spend mega-billions rescuing Wall Street while doing little or nothing to save Main Street.
Which is why I think many would stand to benefit in a benevolently managed socialist state versus the rapacious capitalist corporate oligarchy we have now.
Which is why all of Rupert Murdoch's employees are so afraid of socialism and so stridently preach its evils.
And now that I've done my heavy thinking for the year, why is it that when I see "Dick Jones" I think of someone who has a "jones" for some "dick"?
Right now I've got a cheeseburger jones. -

I dont blame W900 for not training and agree with injun on the reason that I would not want someone tearing my own equipment especially a flatbed. Now if the driver wanted to learn flatbed from a legend like W9 and was an experienced driver, I could see the exception. In the end, we want to see you succeed Dick and not fail; or at least I do.

Me personally . . . I would never train . . . I don't have the patience for it! For those that do and are good at it, way to go! There are trainers out there that have no business training, just as there are drivers out there that have no business driving.
