Spoken with bad Chinese accent. "Grasshopper you must first jump into the warm diesel of Swift before you can comment!" I have been here 11 months. First thing my mentor told me was "don't lease!" He has grossed $221K, we will see what he nets. I was his first student. I got on the truck 2/12/10. He stopped with students a couple of days before Christmas. He is in FL right now working his way back to Fontana for his next student. Successful L/O's are the exception VS the norm. They are doing leases now with as little as 3 months experience.

He was given a load pulling used pallets out of a Walmart DC diwn there. No paper work! Load assignment was voided. So all he got was dead head miles. The ####### for the pallet company didn't leave paper work for all the loads they scheduled. Several others showed up too. Voided their loads. This means no detention pay!!

They screw you sideways and back. I had that happen once and got 8hrs detention pay. Planners were so stupid they sent another truck in behind me with the same trip number.

throw me in there too. but be careful, because nobody wants to hear success stories...they're more interested in seeing people fail, or acting like they will.

a mentor telling someone "do not lease" and then leaving it at that (least you did in your post) dont tell anything. Why did he say that? grossed 221k? LOL....ok

Dicky you haven't proven a #### thing to anyone. You haven't been doing it long enough to show Jack diddly squat.

How long you had this lease? Talk to you in a year. :biggrin_25522:

Ms. Giggles, you have made my point. When people want to learn to conduct a large vehicle safely down a public highway and they cannot find someone with experience who is willing to train them, where are they supposed to turn? I'm sorry for you this industry is no longer the "Good ol' Boys' and Gals' Club" it once was. Had more experienced people opened up to new drivers earlier on, perhaps we wouldn't be seeing two-year veterans training two-week novices. And the "megas" might not have had to create the programs they have. Because the elders would have taken it upon themselves to pass on their knowledge. "Pay it forward" if you will.

It used to be considered to be the job of every experienced journeyman to pass his or her knowledge on to at least five people to guarantee the ongoing legacy and tradition. With the refusal of so many to do so for reasons such as "that individual doesn't fit the mold" regardless of talent and capability, we have a vast shortage of good trainers. Hence, the quality of information being passed on today. You are absolutely correct in noting you can't pass on what you don't know. Yet, so many are trying to in order to fill the void left by you and many like you.

been doing it for almost 3 months. and every week i've turned a profit (cept the 2 weeks i've been in the shop) Still, i'm making it work. I'm not running 3000 mi just to keep my head above water.

And in a week, i'll dump in another $1,000 into the truck for a fridge, 2000w inverter, and a couple items to actually cook with. And that investment will pay for itself in about 2-3 mo. just from eliminating fast food joints, where you spend $8 a pop for a "meal".

but i dont get my rocks off having to 'prove' anything to anybody. I could care less if you think i'm making it or not.

Mr Jones, Your wrong about folks wanting to see you fail. I made a comment about Lease Purchase payments being high~your response was "thats your fall back response" or some such nosense. (Thats one of the rare comments I made on L/P) You think you know more than you do~and belittle folks when your corrected. You would be better served to pay attention to others advice.

    my response was :

then why all the sly remarks pretending like you know me or why i do what i do? You're assuming you know, but you dont. And then when YOU'RE corrected, you claim some sort of ignorance or 'pretend' to want to see me do well, when in fact......you almost forget what you've posted.

Is my lease payment high? Sure it is. That is the penalty for not being able to get a 3rd party lease. Say i DID get that 3rd party lease, it would be on a 4-5 year old truck, 400-500k+ miles and NO factory warranty. If the engine blew up, i'm totally sunk. This truck? engine blows up, they'll stick me in a new truck. Would it be nice to have an older 3rd party truck, and $300/wk payments? well DUH. We all know you hate company leases. so what. you dont have to belittle others who follow that path because you have some personal demons you're trying to avoid.

Typical. Please point out "all" the comments I've made to you about your L/P. As I posted above it was a rare comment about L/P and as far as I remember the only comment to you about L/P. I really don't care if you make it or not, however thats not the same as hoping you fail.
