Yes, there is an extra charge for "premium data service". Don't get this phone unless you're on the Sprint unlimited plan, since most of the features use data service. If you have a limited data account you'll use it quickly.

Father in Law has the EVO 4g and my wife has the Samsung Epic 4G. They both love them but my wife likes having the physical keyboard as an option. After playing with both the only differences I see are that the HTC is bigger but the Epic is thicker. Also the Epic has a much more brilliant screen then the EVO. I have a Palm Pre so maybe I'm just jealous.

I just got the evo last week. I love it. People complain about Sprint service, but I think its pretty good, I also found when roaming it is usually on Verizon, who is supposed to have the best network. You cant beat Srints plan either. I pay 69.99/month for unlimited everything except I only have 450mins to call phones that are not a cell phone. It is only $10 more a month for the premium data plan. I would say its not worth getting a smart phone unless you have an unlimited data plan.

im realy new to smart phones,,,, do you get charged for when you go to roaming on the verizon network? im thinking of the evo with the unlimited plan with sprint,, 99 a month plus the 29 dollar premium data plan,, but i see there is alot of roaming spots expecialy in the north....?

There's no roaming charge, but you want to use it sparingly in those areas. I can't remember what the threshold is, but if you are consistently roaming over a certain percentage of the time, Sprint will cancel your service, which essentially leaves you with a $400 Android powered Paperweight. T-Mobile has a similar policy, I believe.sashadow Thanks this. -
It's around 500 megs a month on roaming. They just called me and said I used 800 megs the month before last and 28 gigs last month roaming... Oppss.. I spent a few weeks out west and was playing my mmorpg games, using eBay and YouTube like crazy... Cool thing is they don't charge me and the rep told me just lay off roaming data for about 6 months and they will reset me back to 0 violations on roaming... Ya can't beat Sprint. I have the black and white evo, I'm rooted and have a custom Rom plus a battery saving kernal.. there are some wicked roms out there.

I have no experience with that phone or Sprint service...but I thought some of you may find this tidbit of info useful...
Surfing the web doesn't use much data and surfing this forum 8 hours a day for 30 days MIGHT use 3GB's...maybe.
Forums don't use much...I'm a moderator on Marlin Owners forum, spend a lot of time there. (you can conserve data by using an "ad-blocker")
Facebook uses a lot (especially the games)...my wife spends a lot of time there, LOL.
A 1 hour movie on NetFlix (appx. 43 minutes of actual movie) will use around 430 MB's (less than 1/2 GB)
Even YouTube doesn't use all that much...but don't overdo it.
I've been using wireless broadband since it first became available (didn't even pay for it the first 2 years...slipped through the cracks with AT&T) and have always monitored my usage...never had an overage charge.Last edited: Sep 22, 2011

Last week I bought the Samsung Galaxy S ll, Epic 4G Touch from Sprint. I switched from a Blackberry 8230 Curve which was the best phone I ever had. I've been with Sprint over ten years.
This model is called the Iphone killer but I have no idea because I never had an Iphone. As of now, I can go about 36 hours without a recharge. Recharge time takes about 2¾ hours. Congrats on your new phone. Many happy miles and smile. -
I have to be Devil's advocate for Sprint here. Unlimited data, but just watch the data use while roaming.
I'm getting ready to root mine before I hit the road so I can tether it to a laptop without having to plunk down the $30. Don't know what you use, but I am going with Cyanogen Mod 7.1 and the Tiamat Kernel.
Anyone who owns a Droid needs to root it and really wake it up. You get more battery life ( I use an extended battery as well ), more freedom, and actually more support in real time from the modding community depending on where you get your custom ROM.
