Hey welcome to the boards Steamin!!
I my self spent 15 years as a vol ff and would not have changed a thing! All full timers I know typicaly have a second means of income, really sucks that it has to be that way! But I am also n the middle of changing jobs. Been a Union Carpenter for the past 11 years and that has all but dried up and I am not the type to set around and wait for something to fall into my lap, so I start driving school in a couple of weeks and then it's time to make an employment decision. My big considerations are retirement, benifits, and miles. I can deal with the 2-3 weeks on the road as long as I am making money. Just plan on keeping my nose to the grindstone and do a good job in hopes that I find a good company that will recognize a hard and dependable worker! Best of luck to you and I hope we can cross paths someday!

If I were gonna answer that calling, I'd be a smoke jumper... lot of hard work and considerable danger, but what a way in to where the action is, yeah? Lot of people out here in Dago complaining about the way pensions are rigged, including those for the excessive number of fire captains we have here. I'm not gonna comment either way on that situation... all I know is that many San Diegans live in wildfire country, although we've had heaps of rain this season so the danger has been knocked down a bit, at least for the present.:biggrin_25525:

Thanks oo7.About in the same boat here. Gotta keep moving ahead. Hope school goes well. A good one will have instructors that pay attention to a motivated student. That's your bang for the buck.
    Good luck.
