I've heard (could be wrong here) Crete/Shaffer requires a year OTR. Our O/P does not have that. Joking about Swift? Nope. But, with that sort of attitude, they probably wouldn't hire you anyway. Your loss.

Try Covenant, JB Hunt, Prime, US Xpress, USA or Knight. Maybe Central, too.

Go on ahead and be as picky as you want. Six months from now, when your license is stale and you still aren't employed, maybe you'll take the refresher and a second look at Swift, huh?

I talked to a recruiter from swift and they were gonna start me out at 27 cpm. No offence injun but that sucks and I do not really care about how many shiny wheels and lights a truck has. Just show me the money

Flat Bed Work maybe what your looking for, but better be healthy and in good shape. You will make more money, but you will earn every penny.

Go apply to CRST. I understand you'll get 22cpm there.

Did you ask the recruiter about distance differential pay or when and how much raises are? I believe you're only 27cpm for a month and then you get more. At three months, another raise, four months, six months, nine months and a year. I couldn't say what the rates are right now. I'm not company. But I do know you get paid more per mile also for shorter runs. And teams get more. And the flatbed division gets hoigher pay...so does heavy haul.

If all you're looking at is starting money, yeah, maybe Swift doesn't look so good. Heck, sounds like you're worth 50cpm with a brand new CDL and no experience. You have nothing but support from me in finding that job. I sincerely wish you the best of luck.

I'm sure everyone would agree that the more .cpm the better, but is .cpm always the be all and end all when considering a company? Sure, company "A" may pay .32 cpm starting pay at 2000 miles, which means a Swift driver would need to drive(# .27 cpm) 2400 miles to make the same wage, but what if you are never getting above that 2000 mile range? What if your equipment is constantly breaking down, or you are getting jerked around by your company? Shouldn't a person also consider miles a company can get you, having better equipment, getting less BS from DM's, FM, mechanics and the company; better national access to more terminals for repairs; insurance and benefits, etc.? I wouldn't know as of yet, so what do others consider most important?

Stay away from the mega-carriers and you won't have these problems. Sure they are easy to get hired but not worth it. The good companies require a little more effort. Maybe even a shirt and tie. Keep in mind this is just an experienced opinion. Good luck to you.
