Even though you've decided not to hire an attorney, you may consider appearing on the court date & request the prosecutor to reduce the violation. "Obstruction of lane" may be a good (zero points) option. As said b4, be sure it carries zero points in Michigan & your home state.
Also be prepared for the prosecutor to say no to "lane obstruction" & offer you a different violation to plea guilty to. This is when you have to be verrrrry careful. He may assure you the alternative plea carries zero points. This may be inaccurate or an outright LIE.
If you're not sure it will benefit or hurt you:
(Acting sincerely) Thank him for the offer & explain to him that you're not sure how transport industry would view this on your commercial driving record, & ask if he'll keep his offer on hold while you while you obtain info regarding it. I you can't find out what you need to know b4 you stand b4 the judge, explain to the judge about the offer & request a new court date so you'll have time to speak w/ an attorney to make a decision. If the judge says yes (they usually do), you'll have time to get a good idea of what you're looking at. If you learn the plea bargain offer is a better deal than the original summons, obviously you'll accept it when you return to court. If the plea bargain offer prevails to be equal of worst than your original summons, call the court clerk & ask if you can mail in a guilty plea to the original violation (w/ a check of course), to avoid returning to court.
Hope this Helps
