If you're making 6000 miles per week as a team and you can't make money, you're doing something wrong. Whether it is England's fault or not, I don't know, but somebody is dropping the ball. A 6000 mile week would be a little on the slow side for us...we prefer to do 7000 if we can, but we can still make money at 6000. I don't know how you could possibly NOT make money. These are figures from a typical carrier, based on my experience:

    6000 miles # $.92 ................................... 5520
    6000 miles IFTA #$.12 ............................ (720)
    Fuel 6.5 mpg 923 gallons ......................... (2907)
Fuel tax rebate (varies by state) ............... 185
    Fuel surcharge #.31................................. 1860
    insurance, etc. ...................................... (400)
    Lease payment ....................................... (500)

That should leave you a settlement of $3038, out of which you might want to throw in for maintenance. These figures are realistic, based on my experience. What about England is different? What, about this deal, is "stupid"?

These (F)lease deals are nothing more where the company has found a way to operate a trucking co and not have any of operational expenses that go with it. Yes you will find a few who are successful but I say FEW just so it looks like its working. One example of a co is jct, there is a lot of their trks with letters in front of #. What does this mean? It means if there are not any letters its the first lessee of the truck and a means the 2nd, b,c,d etc. You get the picture. These companies wouldn't do this if it wasn't profitable to them.

Well, of course not. If you owned a trucking company, would you do something that was not profitable?

I hope they do listen to you, actually. If there are few enough people wanting to do the lease/op thing, the carrier might have to pay us more.

More silliness. Yes, sometimes a load isn't ready, or the place is closed and you can't pick up. So what? You go to a hotel for a day. No one requires you to sit in a truck at FedEx. When you have a team, all you need is 24 hours of downtime to get both team members a 34-hour restart, and you're ready for 7000 more miles. If this happened once or twice a week, that might be a problem, but it doesn't.

I think some people make their own problems, I honestly do.

You are talking about a lease op from CR England...it amazes me why so many think that hotels/motels are in the working budget for a truck getting $0.92 cpm, and less when MT....and it isn't just now and then, it does happen all the time...maybe not every load, but at least 4 -6 times per month, and more during the slow freight season.

Morella, I don't really believe you are a driver...perhaps a recruiter or DM propping up the flease lease game.....you are far from consistent in your points and your "budget" shows exactly the numbers from the recruiters office. You know the real world and the recruiters selling points are so far apart it is pathetic.:biggrin_25512:
