Roberto. I have read the peripheral posts in regards to you becoming a lease operator.
The reason why no one has responded to this one would seem fairly simple but it isn't.
Every broker is different. They run different lanes, different equipment(you could spend days just talking about engine and transmission/gear setup.)and live in different geographic locations, which dictates the rates to a degree. Each one has their own philosophy on how to have the truck make money.
It is too simplistic to throw down a dollar amount along with mileage and the company the driver pulls for. It is much like seeing the tip of the iceburg without actually seeing the rest to fully understand how big it really is.
If you want to get an idea of what you're in for ask this : "What is the best advice you could offer a new Broker?" Then you'll start getting some answers that are relevant.
My advice would be :
"In the begining, get a book and record everything. People you talk to about deliveries and backhauls(record their names, theres nothing worse than to be sitting due to some bad information from some bumpkin on a phone,a name could get you loaded/unloaded as planned.),Maintenance schedules and what is done(you might have a wet lease, but eventually you will be responsible for the maintenance and you'd better know what it costs down to the penny.)What you spend on the road(even coffees). I say this because as a broker you will have to learn to "split hairs" to the point where it comes naturally to you. You will become conditioned to see the dollar amount of everything you do and will learn to cover your ### before you even realise your doing it"
I sincerley wish you the best of luck.ROBERTO Thanks this. -
The reason no one replied is why would I tell you how much I make, what type of equipment I use, where I work or who I work for, or where I go? If I have a good thing going do you really think I want you coming along and trying to do the same thing. Not trying to be rude just honest, you did ask for no B.S.
SheepDog Thanks this. -
Hmm, lets see.
- Cheques for more than enough.
- Tri-axle RGN
- North America
- Company is across the country from where I live
- Long enough for the owner to want me back as an O/O after being laid off as a leased driver.
Does that help? -
But if you'd rather not share, you really shouldn't expect others to share either, should you?
-
You're right I don't expect anyone to share personal info or info about their livelihood, I would never ask for it.
SheepDog Thanks this. -
if you are a good worker then the company shouldn't get rid of you no matter who comes along and you shouldn't feel threatened. Thats my no BS response
