Just to share my experience, was forced into retirement at 63 from the Financial Industry, started Driving when I was 64, straight out of Truck School, went to work for Interstate, very good Company, very poor Trainer (they no longer have a Training Program), couldn't stay in the Truck with him, left Interstate, took about 4 months to get my head clear and to decide if I really wanted to Drive, went to work for May, very good Company, very good Trainer, worked for awhile, decided still wasn't sure if trucking was for me, took 6 months off, went to work for Schneider, have been there for 2.5 years in their part=time program, I work more than part time, has worked out very well. All three Companies are good Companies to work for, you have to decide if Trucking is for you, if you want to live the life style, once that Decision is made, it is a good way to go for us old farts, Drive Safe and be Safe.

May tends to want you to live within about 100 miles of one of their terminals. That's why I have to use my folks address in Denver as my home. My actual home is in Douglas, Wyoming.

May is good. Been happy with em so far. If you go all 48, they definitely keep you running. With one week down due to my breakdown, in two months, I've already hit 18,000 miles on the road.

No, White Dog, I'm not ticked off. I'm merely sharing all of my experiences. Good and bad. There's going to be good and bad with any job, and any company. I'm just trying to present an honest look at what it's like to go from orientation to life with a trainer, to going solo in your own truck.

Everything I write about happens. good and bad. I'm not going to be one of those that says only great things about a company, or only bad things, i'm going to describe my experiences, as they happen, so that other newbies can know what to expect.

trucking isn't all rosy, it's dirty at times, and frustrating at times. but, as compared to having a manager hanging over me constantly, i'd take this every time. there are great freedoms that come with this job, as well as great sacrifices. I'm just trying to present it all.

Speaking of that. I'm back in Denver dropped a load in Pueblo this morning, sat for a couple hours beforte they told me to take my empty to Coors, and drop. Did that, and no new load yet. Hope to get one tomorrow. It's nice to have a night off, but, I need the work. After all, no pay for driving back from pueblo to Golden to drop trailer at coors. That, is unfair. I should get paid for that, but I'm not under dispatch. That is one aspect of May, and I'm sure many other companies that I don't agree with. If you tell me to go somewhere, I should get paid for it. Not just do it as a favor to the company.

Uh-Oh, I said something negative, is White Dog gonna say I'm jaded again??!! LOL:biggrin_25522:

Once again, just another aspect of this job that is reality. Thus printed here.

    Anyway, Happy Driving all!

    THe adventure continues....

You get the picture..............Oregon tax's the bjeeeees's of everything and your thoughts too! Good state for a retiree, want to continue to work though. Watkins Sheppard is around that area.

Wife and I can buy warm clothes!

Are my trucking questions best left to the Newbie area?

Dream, Live where you want. Just know that in Wyoming, you won't get routed to, or through home very often. Watkins Sheppard is a good one to look at, weren't hiring newbies when I looked at them last year, but were at one time.

And now, good news. It turns out those miles I drove from Pueblo to Coors WERE actually paid. THey just showed up as Empty miles on my next dispatch. So that's how it works.

Currently sitting at a dfock in Boise, Id getting unloaded. Then off to Payette yard to pick up a repowerf to take to Bend, OR, then off to Main Terminal in Brooks Or for scheduled maintenance.

    Happy Driving all.

    The Adventure Continues.

Well, sitting here in mccalla, Al waiting to go to receiver tomorrow morning. busted butt and got here early yesterday so i could squeeze in a 34 off to get my reset.

this morning, a us xpress truck that was parked next to me, was leaving and scraped my mirror and right front fender on his way out. it was hard enough to wake me out of a deep sleep. he stopped, probably realizing he'd hit me. i wailed on my airhorn, then he just took off.:biggrin_2555:

i quickly turned on the cb and hollard out for anyone to catch the number on the us xpress truck leaving the flying j. luckily a driver at the fuel island came back with his truck and trailer id. busted!!!!! :biggrin_25510:called you in jerk off.

that aside, been busy. was in bend, oregon, ontario, or and now alabama again. hint, if staying in the birmingham area, don't stay at the pilot near downtown unless you want hookers knocking on your door all night, stay at the flying j at exit 104 on i-20. up out of the way, and quiet. that is except for us xpress trucks sdmashing into you. LOL!

not much new, waiting for cobra to start a board on the 7750, alot of notes for brian. take care all. happy driving

    the adventure continues.....:biggrin_2559:

Good to hear you're get'n along OK Wyo.
I had some azzhat tag my front bumper and run off,I think it happened at Laramie,WY while I was in the shower.
Didn't even know I'd been hit till I was cleaning off my headlights at Layton yard,I'd been in the dark or snow for a few days at the time while on a beer run from Denver just before Christmas.
Glad ya got his number,I turned mine in as a hit and run but I had no witness or idea who did it or where for sure I got nailed.
