Well, at some point, you have to ask yourself..."Do I really want to live in a man camp?"
I think that women can do most jobs that men do these days, especially since men have gotten wimpier, and I am a fairly large woman, but...there are some places where women really don't belong. Truck driving, in general, is kind of on the fringe. I have actually been surprised at how accomodating male truck drivers are to women. I don't ask for anything, but they do nice things like opening doors for me, and it makes me feel welcome, even if I'm not crazy about the lifestyle. If oil field companies are unfriendly to women, perhaps women have no business working for them. Do we have to do every job that a man does?
Let men do some things, like barbequeing, fathering children, repairing trucks, and serving on submarines, at least. After all, they're not insisting on the right to have babies, are they?
Or maybe they are...times change a little too quickly for me sometimes...

i used to work in the patch in alberta--and i think every camp had at least one or two females in it--wether they were cooks or nurses--there really werent any doing the jobsite work but this was quite awhile ago and i am sure times have changed--but there are definte problems with sleeping and showering arrangements, but they can be overcome providing the guys you work with arnt a bunch of buttholes
from what i understand its very hard to find any accomidation anyplace around fields now--maybe like the other person suggested a camper or such would work-but be sure the company gives you your subsinence pay as you arnt using there facilities and someplaces that pay is upwards of 200 a day -
I know people are being discriminated against based on age, veteran status, gender, race, handicaps... this is always happening. What has gooberment ever done about it? Sabotaged equipment does happen. Living in the man camps wasn't an option. If these companies hired more women (I wonder how many have applied) then they could make one room for women or a "woman camp." The armed services have figured it out. If all of the employees were women and a man applied, would they turn him down? I don't think I was turned down for employment because they were concerned about my safety.
One of the men I graduated with told me he resented me because employers have a quota they must fill (to hire a certain # of women) and therefore I will find it easy to get a job right away while he will have difficulty. He started a good job weeks ago, and I say WHAT QUOTA? -
So,are you just gonna keep WHINING about it,or are you gonna do something about it,or are you gonna get a job..? Inquiring minds want to know.

Don't know about the other ladies out there, but I can....
Make an entire wellhead assembly for an offshore OR deep ocean drilling platform...(used to a CNC machinist - vertical and horizontal mills and vert. and horiz. lathes)
Walk into a pod of 144 inmates, tell them what to do and how to do it and MAKE them do it....(used to be a correctional officer in the state prison system in several male prisons - worked both general population and administrative segregation).
And I can, for #### sure handle my truck and all tasks associated with operating it and hauling freight. I have yet to ask anyone to do ANYTHING for me in my truck driving career...not backing, not latching trailer doors, not sliding tandems or balancing loads.
I'm here to work...not play "damsel in distress"....
