(1) I have worked for Watkins and Shepard for a year as a company driver - I have nothing bad to say about them, except there are other companies paying more - and don't count on getting the fuel bonus. BUT as the issue of being asked to do unsafe things, I can't see it. Last winter, as many times as the roads were unsafe or impassable the only response I ever got concerning a decision to shut down for the day (or two) due to weather was the complete support of the company. I can remember receiving qualcoms concerning 'high wind' advisories in which we were encouraged to shutdown rather than take a chance, etc. Safety is #1 with Watkins, and the drivers are treated like adult members of the team, not just like 'meat' as in so many other companies.
FYI, The new CEO is Walt Ainsworth, and his cellphone number is given to any employee who wants it - and he does answer personally. (Sorry about bothering you during lunch, boss!) (1976)

Do they train experienced drivers on flatbed if you never pulled flatbed before?
-
I drove for W/S 10 years some 15 years ago. Good outfit. ran 8 years dedicated. They are a training outfit and do a good job at it, always good equiptment and well maintained. Grab a couple of years with them then you'll have a good resume to look around.
