I thought you were asking about studies on back pain and the 6 weeks it takes for the back to heal itself in 80% of the cases, not on the effectiveness of chiro's.
My wife went to a chiro once for her back pain, and he did not help her at all. She also saw an MD that was also a chiro in the ER, and he was helpful to her as a medical doctor, able to give her pain meds for her terrible terrrible pancreatic pain...something a chiro could not do. I am just saying, why would I go to a chiro when a medical doctor can do so much more than give me vitamins. Maybe you are saying there is a place and a time for a chiro, but I just have not been at that place or time.

Sorry if I didn't make that clear originally.
And, I have been at the place and time when a chiro was better than an MD. I put my back out while warming up with deadlifts. Went to the Dr, and he told me to take anti-inflammatories, and wait. 3 weeks later, with just as much pain as I originally had, I went and saw my chiro, and after 2 sessions in one week, the pain was mostly gone.
I'm a believer in chiropractic when it's warranted. I'm a believer in traditional medicine when it's warranted. I'm also a believer that the mind can produce real pain, and neither of the aforementioned medicines can help. If you're wondering what I'm referring to, it's called psychosomatic disorders. The father of this type of psychology is an MD by the name of Dr. John Sarno. -
Do not judge all of us Chiropractors for the results you got from one. I never let people who complain about truck drivers make bold statements w/o reminding them who brought their groceries or their TV's, etc. I also remind them how hard a life it has to be on the road. Did you expect instant results for years of abuse from the road? Any procedure has its potential for side affects. What do you think the potential of side effects would be if you had an adverse reaction to meds or surgery?
Incidentially, I have performed CDL physicals/testing for truckers for over thirteen years often on weekends and for $50! Thanks for trashing a service provider that would more likely see you in the evening or weekends than any other Doctor! -
FYI Chiropractors are qualified to perform DOT physicals just like MD's, DO's Nurse Pract, etc. It is because of our level of training not a Lobby. Incidenitally, because you need to know, your truckers lobby shut down the attempt by the Medical advisery board made up entirely of MDs (for the DOT) to eliminate Chiropractors from performing DOT work. The reason the truckers lobby did this was that they read the report that estimated 15% of doctors now performing DOT work will continue after the DOT sets up it's certification course!!! Think it is hard to find a doctor to do the physicals now. Think the cost will be less if you allow this kind of thinking. I have had many compliments about my exams (as compared to previous Physician exams)- thorough but not out to find what is not a problem.

I think you have some ax to grind against my profession or, too much time on your hands to research all of this biased research and then post it. Remember, consider the source of the research. If it is developed and paid for by insurance carriers or our competition in the health care "financial reimbursement pie" then, consider the source! You need a history lesson on medical monopolies. Recommended research is Wilks et al Vs. AMA et al (Fed Courts Chicago).

I just had my medical yesterday - it cost me lunch. lol One of my old reserve police officers is a chiropracter and has done my medicals for several years. I am glad I hired him - his normal fee is $145.
