I need some advice yall. I had my 1st accident on December 19th in Chicago. It was a merging accident. What happened was that I was coming off of I90going to I290S and I had just came through the toll booth and was going to merge into traffic but I seen a car coming and she had the chance to move but she didnt so I slowed down because I thought she obviously wasnt going to move so I would just go behind her then I seen her change lanes while she was still at my side so I moved and then she was rear ended by a car in the lane she went into and the she spun in front of me and I hit her and she ended up going down a hill to the right side. Everyone walked away fine but me and her had 2 different stories. She claims that I hit her with the side of my truck causing her to go to the other lane. I was only able to take pics of my damge and her car was so fardown the hill it wasnt really clear on my camera. My damage and the only damage I had was the bottom grill had a cracked and the front bumper was dented in in the front. On top of that me and her recieved a ticket because they say she seen me coming and she should have moved sooner and me just because my merging started the accident. I got a ticket for improper merging resulting in a accident and she recieved a ticket for a improper lane change resulting in a accident. So after that they let me drive to go take a drug and alcohol test and I had to stay in chicago until my results came back. Then my compnay let me drive to a drop yard to drop my load and then I sat for 5 days b4 they told me that the girl that got rear ended went to the hospital later and said she was injured and also because both there cars were towed that they had to suspened me until they investigate what happened and I got sent home the day b4 christmas.
So im still waiting for the investgation its been like 19 days and the police have already ruled we were both at fault because they really didnt know who caused the accident but the companys insurance company is till investigating so I have to now wait for the company safty board to determine if I will stay or be fired because I had just started with this company and I had been there 2 days and I was in a 90 day probation period. I actually found a owner op that would hire me even with the accident and also I found a company in Pittsburgh where I live that is considering hiring me and I also made them aware of the accident. Ive havent been working since this accident and im getting low on $$$ so im trying to decide whats best for me if I should just go elsewhere or wait for the safety board. They said it'll be another 2-4 weeks to determine. I really dont think they would keep me because I wasnt there long even though i had been driving for 2 years w/o a accident. So I just want a few opinions of what I should do. Also im debating if I wanna fight this ticket I got for the accident but I dont know since the police ruled it was both our faults. So let me know what yall think. Thanks!!
My 1st accident!!:-(

My bet, you're gonna get fired. You've already lost a ton of pay waiting for "the man" to make a decision on what to do with your life.
Id be sending in applications, and looking down the road for that next job.
Sorry that happened to you, it totally sucks.CertifiedSweetie Thanks this. -
I'll tell you what I would do........IF and that is a big IF either that O/O or the other company in Pittsburgh will put you in a seat, take it. If they are going to take a month or longer to decide then you don't have a job.
Oh and IF either one highers you...make #### sure that doesn't happen again.CertifiedSweetie Thanks this. -
What was the third drivers story? Were you close enough to the toll booths for video? As it stands it doesn't look good. The company should of made a decision by now. They are playing with your livelyhood and starving you to quit so they can avoid unemployment benefits. I believe I would move on. Most drivers change jobs more than once through out their career. Chalk it up as your first. Pick a new company carefully.
I haven't had a check in 10 weeks on medical leave. I know the $$$ feeling. I get a big chunk Monday though. I'm going shopping

i think i would fight the ticket--and probabely take the other job-the company should realize you cant live with no money coming in--and get fired for a small accident that wasnt really your fault???--maybe --seems there are a low life companys who fire drivers for any infraction--it was an accident--a learning expirience--they should get over it--nobody was killed--you passed your pee test--so whats the big deal?
as for the police giving out two tickets--it just makes their job easier--they dont really have to determine fault that way--they just say everybody was at fault--same thing happened with my personal vehicle--and it was parked--driver A was on cell phone--hit driver B going the other way--one of them hit my parked vehicle--not sure who--i dont know if anybody was ticketed but i ended up paying my own deductible cause neither would say who hit my vehicle--even tho the police determined it was driver A---so it might as well have been a hit and run
good luck and dont let it bother you -
I got the same question as Condo, what is the third drivers story? They are the ones that rear ended the other driver so they probably have an inkling of what happened

19 days since the accident.
No pay, no loads, no truck.
Sounds like no job and they are avoiding telling you to avoid unemployment. -
Thats what ive been doing so far ive had I found a company in Pittsburgh thats over the road and I told them about the accident and they said I should be ok but im just waiting for them to run my mvr. But it just so happened the company I had started with I was driving a owner ops truck and that same owner op offered to let me drive under his authority but im a little nervious about driver for a owner op.
The owner op already appoved me but I want to wait to say what the Pittsburgh company says 1st because with the Pittsburgh company its 20 mins from my home with the owner op its in kentucky. And as long as I can help it i wont be having another accident!!rocknroll nik and The Challenger Thank this. -
If you have an acceptable job offer, take it and move forward with your career. Hanging around waiting on some desk jockey who happens to be collecting a paycheck and could give a rip whether you are is a waste of time.
Get a lawyer and fight the ticket. If you just pay it, whether the current company DACs you or not, it will show up on your CSA2010 score. Oh, yeah...and try to get a copy of that accident report with statements made by any witnesses...especially completely uninvolved, independent witnesses.
Good luck to you.The Challenger, CertifiedSweetie and Lady K Thank this. -
The driver who rear ended the other driver, is liable for that portion. No excuse for rear ending anyone.
But between her and the other driver.... In WA the person on the highway has the right of way.
Don't know if this helps or not.... But regarding any "pile up" it's not her fault. the cars following behind the lead car, are responsible for crashing into it. Not her in those regards.
Supreme Court ruled that one ^^^
