Thank you gentlemen you were the people that the OP needed to hear from
and be safe out there

Yeah...most of the trainers do the offset hrs. I did have to put my foot down with one trainer because he wanted to run team. I told him flat out know, and is that was a problem we could call his Fleet Manager and explain why I wanted a new trainer. That put a stop to it real quick. Some guys can handle it....me personally cannot sleep in a moving truck.
I did have another trainer all of a sudden say he was going to take a nap in the back. About written minute later ( somewhere in PA I forget where) I come up to this little two lane bridge that goes straight into a tunnel that opens up on about a 9 % uphill grade. It was quite nerve racking but I survived. As soon as a cleared my trainer got up from his bunk with a smirk on his face....lol. -
Seems to be lots of confusion here. If a trainer is "team driving" then he is short changing his student. A trainer is supposed to train and not sleep, but thats just my opinion. Trainers running a truck as a "team" are part of the problem of so many accidents and unqualified drivers on the road. If you wanna team then go team and if u wanna train someone, do it the correct way. Thats just my opinion and I'm sure there are some who agree and some who disagree, but the trainee is being short changed.

exactly, most students do the driving... with the trainer next to them watching and helping... now if we shut down because you are tired or out of hours and we are still too far from the customer I may have to drive another 2-3oo miles to get us closer so you can make it in the morning.. . Now in the last couple of days of EVO 2 its ALL you. This is your eval and I sit on the bunk or lay back so I can see the road and just evaluate... to determine if I can recommend you for advancement or testing... I have had guys so good that I had no worries after day 4 of EVO 1 but I didnt sleep...XBOX360 time... the more I spent out of his vision the more confidence he got. No i cant sleep with ANYONE driving... my belly bounces too much

I will never understand the mentality of some of the trainers out there. I had a horrible trainer when I first started out. He was more concerned with leaving at 5am and being home no later than 4pm that he would fly off the handle if I wasn't doing something fast enough for him (why have future OTR drivers train with locals?) so that ended after 4 days.
The trainer is supposed to be there for the student, you are supposed to encourage them when they're doing things properly, and correct them (not scream) when something is going wrong. There is a responsibility there, which is being completely ignored when you're sleeping in the bunk while your student drives.
Honestly, if the OP's husband is "teaming" after 2 days, then the trainer needs to be fired, simple as that.mycorky Thanks this. -
Thanks all! I agree with you, Cynical. He should be fired. The latest? The trainer left my husband alone at a truck stop for about 32 hours while he went to go visit with his brother who happened to live near their route. Locked the steering wheel and left. I'm pretty sure that's NOT okay.

have him call the fleet manager if it is really bothering him

In Evo 1 the trainer is not suppose to run as a team. The logs have to match. Which means while your hubby is driving he is to be on duty not driving. Both are to take their 10 break at the same time. In Evo II the trainer is allowed to be more flexible.

My first Evo I trainer when I first talked to him before even getting on the truck informed me that he was on a tight run and that we were going to have to run as a team. I called Roger in training and told him this and he straighten out the trainer.
