Yes Trucker Steve, that is what I'm referring to, I've been self employed contractor since the 80s and yes I have tax records. I'll be starting driving school Jan 10th for four weeks, hope to get to get hired on at May. Thanks Steve, maybe I'll meet you soon,
    Chris

You would do best to call the Main Recruiting office in Brooks,Or
and get it straight from them. My guess would be no due to the fact
that the closest terminal is Pensacola.Fla and getting you home might prove to be alittle hard. Check their web site for the 800 #.

Hey pjw044, have you driven for May the whole time of did you start elsewhere?

Speaking of fruits and nuts, I grew up in SoCal, I guess when I finally get to driving, I'll see more of socal than I want LOL :biggrin_25521:

Nope.... Started as a newbie with (GASP) CR England in Mira Loma...
Should have know was going to be a BAD ride just based on the CRACK HOUSE hotel they put you in.... even homeless would'nt stay
there it was so BAD. I checked in on a Sunday and within 5 minutes
got a call from 1 of the resident HOOKERS promising "a real good
time." When i quit well before my 90 days(as in their name) and did
local for about 2 years and got the OTR bug again. Went with CENTRAL REFER with a buddy of mine. All was good for 5 months
then they switched Dispatchers on mine and brought a " REAL PIECE OF $#^! " over from ENGLAND. His first statement to me
was" I am GOD and my rules will be followed to the letter."
He told his fleet that he expects to lose approx 30% of "HIS"
drivers in the first 30 days. Plus i had a Volvo truck that they
could not and would not fix or issue another. So it was SO LONG
    CENTRAL and hello MAY.

Wow, what a start, most people might have quit, glad you hung in there.
I've done a lot of research, mostly on this site, that is why I paid for my own schooling and hoping to get on with May, I start school on monday the 10th. I'll keep everyone updated on my progress, if anyone is interested :biggrin_25519:

It's always interesting to follow others starting out. I was there at one point along with tons of others.

Thanks pi for keeping up with the questions. I got too busy with other things and forgot about this thread.

Any L/O or O/O doing well with them. Do you get more miles and pay to be a trainer with them?

I have a question for one or more of you May drivers. If your driving all 48, can you take your time off in other states besides your home state? I'm in Oregon, could I schedule time in Columbus,Ohio because I have family there? Or is parking an issue, because there is no May O/Cs there?

As a trainer/mentor you get an extra $.02/mile the truck moves and the solo bonus upon successful completion by your student. May limits you to 14 hours of drive time a day between you and your student to prevent you running as a team.

You can take your home time anywhere you like as long as you give enough notice. I have heard of guys taking time off in Vegas, Minnesota and the north east. As long as you can get it approved and there is decent freight to get you there and out to there, its usually not an issue. Ohio has a large amount of freight for May.

    CAM Thanks this.
