California's 55mph limit applies to all vehicles when towing (yeah, right...see pickups hauling boats out to the river doing 80 ALL the time with no worries from the CHP) and all trucks with 3 axles or more.
So unless your bobtail is a single axle, drive 55.

I've a few 4 wheelers pulled over with trailers, its a matter of being at the right spot at the wrong time. The best thing to do is when your are in a CMV single or dual axle do the speed limit for said vechile regardless of what state your in.

Actually, it's a tractor, and not a truck. Trractor pull implements, like trailers. Trucks carry and support weight, like P/U truck. Oh and by the way, that motor under your hood is used to start the engine...
scottied67 and Flying Dutchman Thank this. -
Actually watch it swap ends several times! It won't just "fish tail" it will go in fun circles!
You WILL look like an eight armed monkey in a banana picking contest trying to get control of that tractor!
I know. Been there done that when young and dumb! I'll never forget watching that bridge piling keep flashing past the windshield 3 times before I got it straightened out. That I was going backwards when it stopped spinning was a slight matter to the problem but at least it stopped with all parts still attached to where the factory had them!
That my tidy whities were all sucked up in never land didn't matter as it took a prybar to get the seat out before I could get the whities out!
speed and a bobtail can be an iffy thing! -
Simple answer. Your driving a truck. It is 55
-
Half the vehicle (no trailer, doncha know), twice the speed!! If the truck speed is 55, bobtail speed should be 110!
And if you believe this, please refer to Rollover's post on the fun of high speed bobtail driving... -

Just drive the truck speed limit. The only benefit to bobtail is not having to stop at weigh stations.
..ok and having an easier time to park in parking lots.
