At any rate it looks like it would be to your benefit to "donate"a mudflap or light to keep you out of trouble. Heck, you could always take your donated stuff off the unit once you get back to a yard where they would fix it. The price of a flap or light is nothing compared to the alternative. Starting Monday, I'll be pulling someone elses trailers instead of my own, you can be double-sure that their trailer will be legal before I pull it!
Buying and carrying a few "spares" could save you alot of grief later.

The episode where I needed a mud flap was the result of the trailer not having any and I only had one. -
I run I-40 across NM. alot and one of my favorite overnight stops is the Loves at xit-333.
I don't know how many times I've sat there and watched a DOT officer hide in the dark, & pull trucks into that lot because the guy either didn't come to a complete stop at the sign,or had a simple cab visor light out. Any reason to pull the truck over results in a full-on inspection & alot of times an OOS citation. One well known company I was looking at for a lease, said that any OOS citation over the last 3 years would disquailfy a driver or o/o from consideration for employment with then. It ain't worth it. -

You better do some more research cause you don't know what your talking about. -
1st--I was advocating flexibility...changing your own mud flap...whatever it takes.
2nd--if a driver changes companies from A to B, B does not inherit points the driver got while driving for A. B may be able to see your infractions, but their safety record will not be affected by hiring you.
Many employers may pass on hiring a driver with an unsafe record because they are worried the driver will do the same thing at company B.
I am certain employer B will not inherit points you may have aquired while employed with company A. -

What's the point of CSA if your score doesn't follow you ? Your score is yours for 3 years amigo and if a piece of equipment fails a pre-trip then it's not moving in my book. And if you give me some sheet that so and so will do it then I'll lend you the quarter.... call so and so !! Lets get him in here !!

The driver is assigned points for every violation that accumulates.... like a credit score..... these point stay with you ( for all to see ) for 3 years as they age and drop off. Prospective motor carriers will look at these point when considering you for a job....mind you if leaving J.B. for Celadon...no biggie but if your leaving J.B. for Walmart... yeah it's a big deal.
Is Walmart gonna take you at 50 pts or me at zero? And is Walmart going to listen to you whine that your company wouldn't fix it? Nope ! They're going to ask why did you take it out ?
It's going to have to be black and white from now on. Carriers can take a hike with the old b.s.. Motor carrier mgmt. is gonna have to grow up and decide if they want to be in the trucking business or not and fix their stuff.

You are most likely correct on the inherit of points by the company on the driver.
However, it was not the point I was making.
I am concerned about the points assessed on my file. I have to keep them for 3 years. These points do follow me when I move to another company. They are always on MY record. It has nothing to do with a company record.chalupa Thanks this.
