    It isn't just drivers that turn over rate numbers, it is overall positions within the company. 150% means that for every position they have, they hire/fire 1.5 times the base number.

    And to show the numbers of positions they will lose (drivers) by going heavy intermodal (rail)...just look how large a downsize JB Hunt has done over the past 5-7 years. Smaller OTR, and higher local/regional. I can't see where refer fleet freight is going to benefit from going more on the rail. Rail freight is a longer delivery time, and refer is more time sensitive.

    I don't understand how a 150% turn over rate is possible:biggrin_25523: I take it MATH is not your srong suit.

    150% is possible , if a company had say 1,000 drivers and in 1 year hired 1,500 thats the 150% turnover. Same as if I had 10 drivers and hired 15 BINGO 150%.

    No, just less road miles ... since you need "two" drivers for every container load - 1 at each end ...

    The issue is the pay - and if it's worth it to hump containers 14hr days, paid by the mile?

    I don't see CRE being any kind of "pioneer" in better pay or working conditions.

    here is how England has a 150% turn over rate...

    they have 5300 drivers...
    that means that in 2010 7950 drivers started with England, and 7950 drivers quit. That is 152 new drivers per week, about what they put through their orientation each week.

    The article also mentioned a new method that would allow double stacking containers, thus moving even more freight more efficiently.

    (No, math is not my strong point. But how much math does it take to quote an article...)

    Not much , and double stacking containers has been around for years ( 1980's ) nothing REALLY new about that
