By definition and LCV (which is what 380 covers) is any vehicle with 2 or more trailers....which I will NOT be driving. I'm not sure it applies to me anyway.
Hearing horror stories....

I'd like to think that I'll know how to drive BEFORE I take the test.....but doing it right is something that will only come with time.

The point of the advice was that even with a brand new CDL in your pocket, there is still much to learn....

The world of trucking is changing quick, and now with the FMCSA insurance back track system and driver / company rating system, there are too many checks and balances in place to have a student on board without the proper proven structured training. They become a liability to the company. I wish it was like the old days........but they are gone for good.Bumpy Thanks this.

I went thru this in 08. I went to a school that taught 1 on 1. I think I was taught the best way possible. The trouble was the school didn't have guaranteed hiring. I tried to get a driving job with every one, but if they responded they told Me that I had to go to their school to get a job. I finaly bit the bullet Jan. 3 and started C1 trucking school. They told Me that if I pass there school USA trucking will hire Me. If the driver training You will let You drive with Him go for it. The killer might be the insurance cost for You. I have been told it's $8,000 a year for a new driver. The big boys eat this with self insurance. Good Luck Scott

If you do decide to go to an accredited school stay away from a mill that wants $4000 and up! Look for a community college or trade school that has the course for many dollars cheaper and with a better class structure! And stay away from any of these megas that teach, pay you piddling pay and pull the 'training" pay out of the check!

The owner of the very small (4 trucks) company that the guy training me works for is gonna put us together as a team when I get my CDL supposedly. If that goes right, I'll make a little less than the other guy does to offset the insurance costs. It honestly sounds good to me....maybe too good, but I'm gonna hope its enough. If not then I'll have a look at the schools, and have a bit of a leg up on the class.
