I am going with Millis also and it spooked me a little too but I read his previous posts. 6 months ago he was recommending Millis to newbies...If you have been following any of the other Millis threads there are some very content and happy employees.

Slick63, good luck with whatever choice you make. I feel very good about Millis after doing all the research. I would think if things were really starting to go south there would be more chatter in these threads. I am just glad to be getting out of my current career. I am not expecting brand new shiny equipment and I am not expecting Millis to be the Lords of the trucking industry. From all I have read, if you keep a good attitude and don't expect more than you earn, they will treat you good. I am sure they have problems as all businesses do but I have no doubt it is a better choice than Swift, Werner, CRE and most of these other companies that offer CDL training. Good luck!

Thanks Ironrider, I am in the same boat as far as wanting out of my current career, and Millis looks very promising. I will just have to trust my gut on this one and hope for the best. See you out on the road!

Shops' - well that is not a strong point for Millis as I have seen so far but I have never had any real bad experiences either. I cant imagine that crap that these shops have to put up with due to some of the drivers we have. So it's not uncommon for things like this in this industry Have had work done in all of them - and I do mean all of them. Some are better than others - but that's not different than some McDonalds are better than others too!
Dont listen to people who dont work for the company. Listen to the ones that are experiencing it every day.
Everything is not perfect by any means - but it's a great company and if you give 100% - you'll get the same in return. At least I have so far in the 7 months being here.
Just my 1 cent worth! -
Thanks Baritone, I'm glad to hear from one of the drivers, I have put too much time and effort in to this to quit now. I am looking forward to meeting all the guys on this Forum, It has helped me to make what I believe is the best choice.
Thanks again,

Let me know if you need a reference. -
I have to agree with baritone when i was up the right after thanksgiving there were a couple of new t660 regional trucks there. I have heard the same thing about the t 700s also. Another reason they had not gotten any new road trucks was that they had been buying more regional trucks to add more trucks on.

Yes things are a little tight at Millis for equipment but there are reasons for it. The worst economy in 70 years and a bad wreck in NY last year that ate up a lot of capital in its settlement because of a very bad driver who took a mothers life. I am a driver at Millis and came to the company for training after getting the "your hired offers" from several other companies. After researching the industry ,Millis had the best reputation out of all of them. Are there problems there, yes as there are every where but they do treat you better than most and they keep their promises if you keep up your end of the bargain. Truck drivers are as a whole undependable and have a reputation of being lazy and its well deserved. If you prove you are a professional and will work hard, they look after you. My truck was having problems during a load and I was changed out into another rig(newer)in 2 hours. When the loads pick up,the trucks will get newer and we will all do better.
I have never regretted my decision to come to Millis and am glad I came out of their school. They have decided that by training their own drivers, they can get a better truck driver singing off of their sheet of music rather than cast offs from other companies. When Millis gets rid of some of the old school drivers and gets on installing fleet wide electronic logs, the company will be top notch.
It is and will be the best place to start off and many drivers I have met are 10 plus year veterans there with no complaints.
Just my 2 cents. -
Thank you Downsouth. That is a very good post and it does help lower the anxiety for those of us changing careers.
