well the driver is responsible for 30% of the fuel mileage but to answer your question the detroit seriers 60 is know for low maint cost and a i would say 13 speed with 3.55 running 55-60 mph is the ticket to good fuel mileage, but what truck are you looking at and what kind of tires caps or virgins tread pattern,

also the cummins is good for fuel mileage and a little more than detroit on the maint cost but has more performance,

and of course cat is a well liked engine and i have seen guys make great numbers with them so it is more of a preference

Oh this should be good. Everyone has their own opinion of what is the best engine. Some will not even think of opening their minds to consider other brands.

Well to be honest I have a Cat and Cummins doing the same job at the same time. The Cat has a PDI tune to get it to the same mpgs as the Cummins without a tune. But I think alot of that has to with the driver and having a truck speced right for fuel economy.

    Markvfl Thanks this.

I'd say any pre egr engine gave the better fuel economy whats offered today.
