"what would you do for a Klondike Bar"...????
Lilbit Thanks this. -
Whether your friend "owns" his truck or is leasing it, if he's a "mentor" (fancy word for trainer) and he's telling you training would be two days, something's wrong. Swift's policies would control your situation.
Swift would have to approve you. You need to ask them. And the ridealong thing: that might very well be a violation of company policy. Red flags all over this. Call Swift and ask your questions. This is just like a recent thread . . . -
But i would be hired on by a o/o who is also a mentor and using his truck if that makes a diiferance i dont know. I just dont want to spend the time and money on having me teach me and then no one will take me cause i am a green driver. There is not alot of OTR outfits that take new drivers tho it seems. -
Mentor or not, even if he wants to hire you, Swift would still have to approve you, since he runs under their authority and their insurance--there's no way to get around that, he can't just put you in the truck. Call them. There are carriers that take new drivers.

Any O/O who is driving for Swift cannot hire anyone unless that person is qualified to drive for Swift. That means that you will need to meet the same qualifications as someone hiring on as a company driver.
Swift is looking at this as a liability issue as they are the deep-pocket in any potential litigation involving accidents or injuries caused by your driving. It matters not where your paycheck originates, only where the legal buck stops.ac120 Thanks this. -
I am with a Swift mentor now. He is a O/O. He says you have to get your cdl first. Then apply for job at swift. If you are accepted, then you attend the 3 day orientation. Once you get your driver code, then you can request a specific mentor(your friend) and if he is available, they can assign you to him. Hope that helps.

thats what i thought you still have to meet swift's critera for employment since it is there insurance and authority you will be running under
