Ha ha ha, that's classic. Getting caught on a weight restricted road and playing dumb is one thing but ...

Personally I feel if he went fast enogh he would have made it to the other side.
ambivalence Thanks this. -
Not this bridge, but a Covenant driver did the same thing 4 days ago in Georgia. Her partner was sleeping at the time and said she peeled about 5 feet of the trailer roof back. When the sleeping partner called dispatch the fleet manager asked to speak to the driver. Manager just said to her not to bother getting her stuff, security would leave it next to her car in the parking lot when she got back to Chattanooga.

Obviously, he was too tall for that bridge, but if it's 11' something, someone's on crack. There is NO damage to the top of the tractor which is right about 13' tall. And he didn't not clear that bridge by over 2 feet. So something doesn't add up there.

It looked like he just had a standard 13.6 van, like dozens of other he probably drove.
Anyone who's been doing this job for more than 10 minutes - should know 13.6 (or higher) is the standard van height - not 11 or anything near it.
But something tells me (if he remains in the industry) ... he will "remember" now ... -
Just a thought... i was told when driving around NY state that yellow clearance signs were always at least 12" lower than actual clearance of the obstacle, to account for snow and pavement buildup. I was also told that even if you could make it under, you could be cited (dunno with what) if the marked clearance was below your vehicle height.

seems to me it would be cheaper to dig out under the bridge than build a new bridge then it wouldn't be a common occurrence no more just makes to much since
-
they should put a no truck route sign on the street, they tried this around my town but some truck driver managed to drive on the sidewalk and knock it down. I guess the sidewalk had a better clearance.

I use to go up Rt. 36 in NY all the time. From Hornell to Dansville where it meets I-390.
At the north end of the road, just as it gets to 390 is a bridge marked 12 foot 8.
It is actually 13 foot 8. And trucks go under it all day. But allot of skid marks approach it.
The only sign is a little 10 inch sign on the bridge itself.
Mainly you just need to know where you are. If you do not know the area on any back street or road in NY. Be careful.
