this could probably be a new forum heading but here goes - we all know communities and businesses are lousy about being generous to us when we need a place to park - whether its access to shopping, for an overnight, or just a couple hours to run an errand away from the rig.
Some places are worse than others and I think I'm in one of those places now - Seattle. The only real stop I know is the former Flying J in Federal Way (exit 136 and now a Loves). It has about 40 spaces and since it sits blocks away from the Tacoma port, there are never spaces open. Local industrial parks in my experience all have signs forbidding on street parking and Seattle has signs up stating no parking on shoulders etc from every direction you come within 40 miles of the city. (I deliver at the Safeway in Auburn in the morning)
Short of having to rent a motel room just to get a place to park, does anyone know of any places around town that a trucker can park a tractor/trailer combo without risk of being ticketed/towed? My sister used to work at the Westwood shopping center and arrange with security for me to park there, but that option is gone. I deliver in Auburn, will try the Loves around 10am, but would love to move closer to the suburbs (Burien) with the rig while I visit family for my 34 hour break. Anything around the Seattle ports? SeaTac? Industrial parks I may not know of with on street parking? How the hell do trucks deliver here if we have to park 80 miles away? (I lucked out and got a slot at the northbound scale tonite).

when i was with swift i delivered there alot... the Dairy Queen one exit south of the exit to safeway lets you park thier and on the side street my the hotel it shares the lot with... you can also sleep on the off ramp to safeway.. also the 24th st exit (i think) there is a little truck stop that usually has a spot or two open all the time and there is a couple side streets their by costco dc that you can park on... the northbound scale at the 120 usually always has parking that might be alittle far out knowing the wait times at safeway then the scale at the 140 sometimes you can get a spot if your not too late.. the south hill mall in puyallup allows truck parking and there usually isn't alot of them their... also the Kmart on hwy 167 allows truck parking and has a resturant in the parking lot...

i hope this helps you out

thanks very much! also in googling I just found that there is a Walmart at xt 142 (Rte 18 and I-5, NW corner) with a Super8 on the same side street that has truck parking next to it. I may check in there for the night and park there for 2.
(I guess there used to be a truck stop a block farther west at Rte 8 and Pacific Highway but it has been replaced by a shopping center).

if you go to North Bend T/A get there as soon as you can. It does fill up arond 3pm weekdays, by 5 pm Sundays. Been here since Monday afternoon.
U can't park on the ramps, it's posted by the state, NO PARKING.

That Loves/ in Tacoma, very very tight parking, and it does fill early. Not to mention, ya got locals who park there then.drive thier cars home.

I used to use Circuit City loading docks after they went under.

Any abandoned big box store with docks facing away from the street is a good candidate. (as long as you feel the area is sufficently safe.)

A plus is, you can back to the doors so your cargo is secure.

I'm told this doesn't work as well with tanks/skates and oversize though. I wonder why?:biggrin_25520:

Ahh the one area of the country I dont have to worry about for parking. I can park at home. But it has always suprized me that there are no large truck stops in the area. Just a couple small ones that you cannot depend on for parking. Dont even think about going to the flying J in fife for parking. Even if they happen to have a parking spot, the spots are so tight your probly going to loose a mirror over the night. While nothing is dependable in the area. scale houses and rest area's are a good option to look into.

If you where heading north on 5 I would sugest looking into the rest area around 80-90 (forget the exact MM). If no parking there I would check exit 99 (Pilot and some Haji place), And if no parking there I would try the scale at 112 (or so). Your chances of finding a spot past that drop dramaticaly, And will probly have to find some non traditional spot ot park.
