Injured Driver needs automatic transmission!

    Hi All,

    I am new, glad to be a member here. I have been driving for 30 + years, most recent driving a semi-dump for an excavation company. I fell off of a step on the truck and injured my right shoulder. As a result, I can no longer drive manual shift for employer due to limited use of my right shoulder.

    My question...what other driving jobs could I look for where the vehicle would be an automatic transmission? Or would anyone know of any companies in the Chicago area that operate automatics?

    I'd appreciate any help.

    Interstate has auto shifts and i have seen a few Knight trucks with the autoshift also

    If you're within 120 miles of Indianapolis or Richmond, KY, WS has some automatics and would probably love someone with your experience...

    Good luck in finding something you can do in the line of driving. US Express wanted people to team, last I knew.Many companies have some auto-shift trucks,and may be interested in you with your experience.

    Start calling recruiters for Willis Shaw and US Xpress as well as MCT. MCT is made up with fleet owners but I was told some have the autoshift or ultrashift. Trans AM has autos as well .

    I think the bigger problem might be that if you cant shift with the limited use of your right arm then what else cant you do? Can you pull the pin for the fifth wheel, crank the dollies up and down or pull yourself into the cab or trailer? That is something potential new companies are going to look at.

    Thanks for the help. I can use my right arm, just not repetitively. That's why we have two, right? :)

    I have thought about this and I think I would like to stay local to Chicago. Any ideas on companies that drive locally, maybe regionally that would have these auto-shifts?
