I've always been fond of Macks, I cut my teeth on them many years ago. Now I think they "Mack Trucks" is a subsidiary of A/B Volvo, not sure who that helped or hurt. Alot of the newer aero style rigs look alike to me these days. I can only tell what make it is if I'm able to see the badging when it passes me or I pass it.

One thing that I have noticed since getting behind the wheel again is that the new equipment far exceeds what I was used to in nearly every way drivability wise. I'm currently driving a 2009 Pete 379 day cab W/475 Cat 18 speed locally.

For my tastes I'd like a bit more space in the cab, but more so the door openings are a tight entry/exit even for someone my size ( 5' 9" tall approx 180 lbs.) it seems like I could climb in/out of these things easier 25 years ago lol!!!! Ok maybe it's the 50+ year old driver and not the doors :biggrin_25523:

without volvo they wouldnt be able to achiev epa07 norms.mack E7 lost all resource for further modernization ,in the end it was a 50"s engine design with 3 meter long valve pushrods and weak cooling capacity .i doubt they could design a new engine from the ground for they own.:biggrin_25512:

You notice though that Tyson also has as many Volvos as they do Macks, and from what I've seen they have Macks that only do yard duty now. I agree that Macks are great, but not for OTR, they are happier in the oil fields and on the logging roads.

Oh no they don't! Fleet managers only have the drivers in mind and ALWAYS spec a truck for performance.:biggrin_2559: \

What's sad is most guys see what a large fleet buys and figure they did that because they were the best trucks on the market. They don't even consider that they buy brand and model "X" because they were the cheapest and offered the best deal to dump them when it was time to trade.

    HEAVY DUDE Thanks this.
