Whaaaa? Wow I've never heard of this. I could see this being really abused if they cut a deal with a local tow/impound firm. Bathroom? Towed. Watching TV? Towed. Finding a place to smoke? Towed.

Actually I have to brag I have the "honor" of being thrown out of the Pilot on I-84 in NY. Another driver in front of me got tired of waiting in line, put down his $4 in candy and walked out. The manager (who was causing more problems than fixing them at the cashier) decided that instead of expediting and getting the customers out the door he'd spend a few minutes dramaticly complaining about how hard HIS life was and how he had to deal with "THESE PEOPLE"

To which I said, "If you don't like it, quit. In this economy there'll be 20 people applying for your job in the morning".

I haven't been allowed back in that place since.

Of course truck stops mark up their items, everyone knows that. That's how companies make profit. How much they mark it up is dependant on what kind of deal they got when buying it. Walmart buys large quantities so they can afford a slight mark up. Other companies don't buy as much so they have to mark it up higher to get a profit.

Probably the only two things that aren't marked up as much in truck stops are the CAT scale and fuel. Yes you have choices: you can either pay these prices and deal with it, or you can stop at Walmart and stock up on things so you don't have to pay these crazy prices. Some times you need that item right away so you have no choice. Other times it can wait until you're near a better store.

I dunno about CAT scales but if you can fit a truck and trailer in a fuel island, the fuel will regularly be 10-15 cents higher then the smaller "car-only" ones with diesel. They make a killing doing that.
