Mica Eyes Rail to Get More Trucks, Cars Off Roadways

A few years ago this jackwagon tried to make keep trucks off the roads during the AM and PM rush hours. Thankfully he had no success with that idea.

 

Well can we look at what contributes to the increase in all the truck traffic? Is there in fact a failure of Rail and even AirPlanes to contribute?


For example I recently picked up a load from U.S. Airways at a Philadelphia Airport that was due for delivery at Hebron, KY(by Cincinnati) at U.S. Airways terminal at another airport. Maybe I'm missing something here but none of this stuff could go out on a freight plane especially if it was hot General Electric parts?

I do agree our roads are often to congested but I think this is just government trying to look like it's doing something about it by spending money.

 

Planes are not always a reliable mode of transport. I spent nearly 20 years in air freight. But many folks have no concept of how much "air" freight actually moved by truck. If the transit time and distance allowed, shipments never left the ground.
And as far as Amtrak goes, we tried that route, they lost the freight.
The interstate system was originally intended by Eisenhower as a way of allowing more efficient truck transport.

 

Unless every store and warehouse in the nation gets a rail siding, putting freight on rails doesn't reduce the number of trucks needed to move the freight, it just changes the geography of where they run.

Railroads serve only a small percentage of the towns in the US. The $$ necessary to rebuild all the deserted rail beds would be staggering, and no private rail company would even try.

So, we make all the long distance freight rail, but you're still going to need hundreds of thousands of trucks to get the freight to it's final destination. Can you even imagine the cluster**** rail hubs would become? Hundreds of trucks lined up at a time trying to get in and out to pull those containers hither and yon.

Again, you haven't reduced the number of trucks one iota, you've just changed the geography of where they operate. And now, instead of trucks coming into a city from all directions and dispersing throughout the area, you've got them concentrating on one area. Yeah, that'll work.

The "put all the freight on rail" shows up as reliably as Puxatawny Phil. Same thing over and over and over...............

I can see the headlines now.
VA complaining about train noise in his neighborhood, due to to the tracks going to the nearest 7-11
Are poeple in VA. all this stupid?
