10 years then I retired. But I've spent my time in the bad jobs just like everyone else. What I always say is set goals for yourself to get the jobs that keeps drivers and that means keeping your record clean and your performance at it's highest. I worked for a major oil company and it's not un-common to see drivers go 20 to 30 years with the job. Once you find a good job (and there're out there) you stay untill you retire. I think the better jobs are those that do not get their income from the truck. You just have to search around to find them. If you get into specialized hauling you have a better chance. Like the program I saw on hazmat and the Tristate driver that was well trained and worth alot to the company.

I have had 11 employers in 40 years. Six of them are no longer in business. Now, my present employer is winding down. When I hire on, it is the kiss of death. :biggrin_25520:

What i read is feight is down 1.7% last month, driver turn over is at a 2 yr high avg. 127%. But i also contribute it to rail and corperate machines, wanting to show profit to stock holders.. You hear that alot today corperations are at all time high producing profit.. What about the men and woman who contribute to there sucess. These corperate machines are still riding on the shirt tails on 9/11.. A gal of milk was almost almost $5 the other day when i went shopping, thats just 1 increase, what dose the avg co. drivers get a yr. increase 1 or 2 cent raise with a fuel and safety bonus, that are not obtainable.. :biggrin_25512:

    No very long.... ;)

As far as your good/bad companies to work for thoughts. The company I work for has only hired 2 drivers since March of this year, at our terminal....we have no empty trucks.

With that said...they have hired drivers at other terminals and the main terminal. Our latest company mail out shows they hired only 20 drivers in the last month...out of 700+ total drivers company wide.

Just a tad under the 100-200% turn over ;)
