I can't tell you anything specifically about j&r but I can tell you lease/purchase plans are a horrible idea. If you want to be an owner operator you should save money and make a down payment on a used truck
-
I dont think its a good idea, although I know nothing about it,my hometown is New Ulm,and the folks I have talked to at Schugel are not happy with the lease deal..
-
well thanks guys idont have money to put down but would love to get in my own truck 18 month $410 a month payment plus extras come to $750 for a 2007 9900ix international w/ 312,000 miles
-
The guy talked to one of the drivers on the the lease purchase. He said he was only making enough for truck payment.
-
$410 per month?
-
That has to be $410 a wk...
Otherwise,count me in..
HEAVY DUDE Thanks this. -
Looking to drive again, definitely not interested in leasing from anybody. Here's my thinking:
Company has leased trucks to drivers and also has company drivers. One load with lease truck and a company truck available. Company already has income coming in from the driver on the lease truck, whether it moves or not. Company truck does not make the company money unless it's loaded and moving. Seems to me that the company is going to get their company truck loaded first before they will load the lease. -
When I was driving for them earlier this year, I talked to a few Lease drivers (they actually have a lot of em). None had anything bad to say, but you certainly are not going to be sh!tting in tall cotton any time soon. You have to stay out a little longer, pay attention to the loads they offer, don't take crap miles for they pay. Pay attention to where you fuel and the costs of fuel.
As anyone can tell you leases are not for everyone and most of the time you will probably fail. Most company drivers are so used to being a company driver and the rules that surround them, owning or leasing is not the same.
There is one Lease driver I knew there who has paid off 2 trucks and on his third. So it is achievable. Just be ready to encure all costs, spend lots of money and make close to nothing. If your in the right mind set and have a business mind, you can potentially work everything out to become an owner operator after a few years on a lease. I would actually suggest you sign on as a company driver at Schugel and get a good feel for the company. If after awhile you like the company and their methods let your dispatcher know you wanna lease and they can put in touch with Amy about leasing on.
To sum it all up, look and look HARD before you leap.
Good luck.Mdbluecrab and The Challenger Thank this. -
I tried the lease thing at Schugel .....you will work for free ......you can't make money in trucking for less than $2.00 per mile!
dirthaller Thanks this.
