Hmmm..surprised I didn't get more comments about my adventure with Swift. Well just telling it like it was. Good luck to any others who decide to go with Swift and I will be on my way down the road.
Take care everyone!

Hey martman, I am thinking of going with Swift, but not going with their cdl school. I am going thru a school in Florida just in case the company and I see things differnetly. But I was wondering what the pay was while you were in training. A freind of mine is a trainer and said I could request him as a mentor. Any other advise that you can give me would be appreciated.

Thanks for the portrait Martman. I'm one of I suspect many, that looks forward to reading your posts as they seem straight forward, and simply tell the story of one man's journey in trucking. JMO. Good luck, and keep on posting!

I like your straight forward post as well... please keep the posting up. I am not always able post... but I am still reading. -
Hey Marty, hope you are still around and posting. Looking at your post numbers you do make it back!
I heard that the pay scale recently changed with swift, so if you are still with them, got anything new to post about?
I am wondering what the physical test is like at swift. I know the punkin drivers now have to do a series of things then they check the heart rate. I have read that swift is different, but would like to get some first hand info from those that have been there since it started and those that went there recently.
When you got your truck, was there anything that needed done or anything you had to do to it, such as new cb coax, etc?
Keep us posted, and I hope to post and let everyone know what my experience is as long as everything goes well next month. -
Marty,
I want to thank you for your detailed quote about how your mentorship went. I am a nervous new Swift trainee just done with the first range skills testing. I am happy to have that over with and looking forward to going on to the road training next week (I am in Lewiston). I have been reading so many horror stories about Swift that it was nice to hear your account of what happened out on the road. The trainers at the Swift Academy are very clear about it being our responsibility to get a mentor that we can tolerate so we can learn. I guess I will have to make a decision early on if I think it is a good match. I sure don't want to sit in a truck for 6 weeks with someone who I just happen to rub the wrong way. I am hoping that I get a mentor that becomes a lifetime friend, but I am nervous about the hassle if I get a bad match first time out. Thanks again and please keep posting about what happens to you next. I will be watching. Julie

They didn't give a reason but rumors are saying that Swift has been operating an illegal driving school and maybe the straw that broke the camel's back was their attemp to charge students that quit the school $6,000. I guess it makes sense... sign up 100 drivers, 50 quit and you charge them $30,000. Nice profit without any wheels going round.

Lost-in-montana, and LonsomeTrader good luck out there and remember that if you ever have problems with your mentors just talk to Steve about it. He's a good guy that has been around for quite a while. He'll sort it all out for you. And If they send you to the Grandview terminal atleast say Hi... -
Two questions:
I have sinus issues and need an apu and can provide a doctors note. Will they provide me one or let me idle the truck.
Does ocala have van and flatbed ops?
