The only thing that matters to me about a truck is how much per mile I am getting paid to drive it, and how much time it spends waiting for a load to haul.
That is, unless it is a super short wheelbase set back axle international cabover with spring ride suspension. Then I have a problem.![]()

this week I will buy my own truck, I need your suggestions as soon as possible. Thanks. I checked almost all the dealer's website, and find the following trucks got my interest, really don't know choose which one.
1. 2004 petebilt 387,13 speed transmission, Cat C-15 engine 475 hp, 614835 kms. 73500canadian dollars.
2. 2005 FL columbia , 13 speed trans, MBE4000 engine 450 hp, 456916 kms , 67900 Canadian dollars
3. 2003 volvo VN64T610, DE12 engine 465hp, 13 speed trans, 550,000 miles, 38000 can$.
I want my first truck reliable, and good fuel efficency. I put security priority. I don't want put extra money for repairment. So which one will be the best ??? I really need all budy's opinion. I wait on line.

The Cat in the Pete is probably a pre-accert or bridge engine, I'm guessing it doesn't have twin turbos, it should be reliable but it costs more to fix things like turbos and sensors on Cats, the Columbia is probably the lightest of the 3, I don't know about the MBE 450 engine durability, they are starting to trade lots of those in from the 2004 model year here in the states, I'll reserve judgment on the Volvo, I personally don't care much for them but some people love them. Have a printout done of the engine computer for each of the trucks, it should give fuel mileage and idle percent and give a percent in high gear and cruise used. If it is going to be used to pull a van or reefer, you would be better off with a condo or the air dam on top of a flattop or mid-roof, if pulling a tank or flat or something lower, you would want a lower profile tractor.
One more thing on the Volvo, why are there less miles on an older truck, was it in the shop too much or was it just not run as hard? In the end, you have to decide what you want,, I would look some more.

I have been driving my frieghtliner for close to one year. Yes it is referred to as the Freight Shaker. Shakes like crazy and my back kills me! But the engine is tough as nails.

Well I drove Frieghtliners, Peterbuilds GMC, KW and a Autocar. I also drove 2 COE, Frieghtliner and Pete COE.. All ride the same, to me. Feel all the bumps and so forth.
Volvo has one Body style I hated, but their newer and larger trucks are fine looking.
I can say that for a Peterbuilt, I drove Petes for the last company, and my back hurt while I drove them.. A guy back home is now on Disability cause his back is messed up after driving Petes. So all are going to be rough rides.
So if you like Petes Drive a Pete, if you like a Frieghtliner Drive a Frieghtliner, if you like a Volvo Then drive it. or look for a company that offer those as the company truck. You'll make money no matter what you drive, unless you sitting around more than driving... That what you need to really look for. -
