I am curious .... three weeks and 1 week .... Every company I ever leased on to took me a few months to get the bugs worked out and about 4 months to gain the dispachers confidence .... I am not sure what to make of this. Has anyone leased onto Panther for more than a year? If you have then let me know if these guys are giving the straight scoop (no offence ... sometimes it's just a run of bad luck).

I am new to this board, I driver for a truck owner who leases to Panther. Here is what I posted on another thread.

Be careful of someone who says "I drove for Panther" They drove for a fleet owner or were an O/O leased to Panther. Panther does not hire drivers

    Ok, My $.03 on Panther
For almost 3 years, the wife and I have been driving for a truck owner with Panther.
First 2 things, to make money,
1, same household team; the best money runs require a team, two households splitting the pay is 1/2 the pay!
1, a good relationship with your truck owner, get references from other drivers driving for the truck OWNERS you talk to about driving for. (Panther does not own any trucks, only trailers for semis)
Even if you own a truck it would be good to spend some time under a fleet owner to learn the ins and outs of the biz.
Next, hazmat and D.O.D will get you more runs, thus more $.

I hear this lot "I see a lot of those Panther trucks sitting in truck stops"
YES true if you are a day time solo driver. I'd guess about 75-85% of our runs are 4-6 PM pickups delivering ASAP (pick up time + distance X 47mph = delivery time) or as soon as the con opens in the am.. This is not the place for daytime only drivers.

Be careful of someone who says "I drove for Panther" They drove for a fleet owner or were an O/O leased to Panther. Again Panther does not hire drivers.

We have had and are having a great experience with Panther and if you fit into the above description you should also.

Actually both of those statements are FALSE.

    1. Federal Law STATES that a CONTRACT MUST state that the owner of the vehicle gets paid wihin 15 days of turning in paper-work necessary to bill the load. And that same regulation says the Carrier MUST PAY the owner (of the equipment) with-in that 15 day period. 49 U.S.C. 14102(a)
    2. The STATE you reside governs your pay-period. Some states require your employer to pay you weekly, bi-monthly or at least once a month and on a REGULAR interval, as agreed to between employee and employer (but get it in writing). You will have to research the labor laws in the State where you reside. You can do that online for all States.

I think we can all assume that if someone says "I drove for Panther" that they were EITHER an O/O leased to Panther or a DRIVER hired for an O/O.
So that point is meaningless......and YES.....I "drove" for Panther......and just about went broke the way they dead-headed me 400 miles every day for several days in order to position me for a load, then refused to pay any D/H miles (when my contract stipulated paid D/H after 450 miles).

I read in one of those job booklets that Panther's CEO got his CDL and drove a Panther STRAIGHT truck for a week.

    Wow, a whole week.
Way to get your hands dirty.
Does he really think that 1 week of driving makes him one of us?
And according to the ad, it seems like he was EXTREMELY proud of that fact.
I know most company's CEOs haven't driven at all. But to act like driving 1 week is some huge accomplishment. Eff off.
Stay out on the road, away from your huge house, away from your family, having to live off of the milage pay, for at least 6 months. THEN you'll have my respect.

I can respect a successful business man, because I'm not a business man.
But if you drive for 1 week, and say now you're a driver like me?
Blow me. There is a HUGE difference between the lifestyle we all have, and driving on a glorified road trip for a week.

Ok here goes.... He is screwed if he does and screwed if he doesn't. So he makes the effort to do this and you guys piss and whine, just like you whine about CEOs and bosses knowing nothing about the biz. He makes hundreds of thousands of dollars a year, you make ???
Jealousy is easy to spot guys.
