Well, I have set it up. I go to orientation for Roehl on June 6th. I was planning to go to Boyd Bros, but after discussing it with my better half; we both think that flat bedding would be harder on my back. I called Carrie today at Roehl and set myself up for the Honor Program with the Apprentice program. I will be able to get some of my GI Bill back. I was skeptical of this program at first, but after looking it over with my wife, we figured this was the best deal. I will be going to Ellen Wood, Georgia for orientation. I was surprised when she asked me if I wanted smoking or nonsmoking. I am not looking forward to the bus ride down there from here in Hampton Virginia, but I will make due. I am excited to get this show on the road. I will work out perfectly. I am on Terminal leave from the Navy and my pay checks keep coming until June 30, then I will start getting my retirement checks once a month. This will put me on the road close to when my Navy pay stops.
Whispers, maybe I will be with your husband. Who knows.
If anyone out there has any suggestions or info on the Ellen Wood area, let me know.
The words on this forum had a lot to do with what companies I looked at. Thanks to everyone out there.

You and I talked about this a while back. What company are you going with? If I remember right, it was something out of Texas. -

I will be doing the same thing. My terminal starts 13 July. I am supposed to start class on 23 July. My DOS is 20 Aug. -
Hey Perdy.......
Got your e-mail and I will answer it asap. In the meantime.....welcome aboard. Unfortunately my husband is a smoker. (he needs to quit!) I myself applied to Roehl for their cdl school. They called yesterday I need to call her back. -
Maybe we will see you out there. -
Im in the same boat as yall, I go on terminal from the Corps on June 2 and start cdl school. I Eas on the 29 and start working the first week of July so i wont have to go w/o a paycheck. But im saving GI for when my wife finishes her degree so i can go to a tech school for either diesel mech or welding. ITs nice to see others in the same boat.

Pedy6Pak I like the idea that the training is paid for with no strings attached but are you going to continue on with the salary? Or can you switch to mileage pay? I'm on orders through December and will probably be starting cdl school in January. I like Roehl but that salary is kind of low. Thanks for any info. -
roehl has practical miles, don't know if long or short practical,if it is lower and other company pays household you could make better at roehl, could be up tp 500 iles a week difference over what type of mileage pay,I believe at the least with practical long and short could be 25 to 50 a week, not sure of the difference, others will set me straight, also roehl gets the miles while some are waiting for loads. Alot to consider.
