Hi folks,
My name is Kathryn. I am an ex-trucker, ex-dispatcher, and a writer for Truck Post, a regional publication in Western Canada that's been on the news stand for a couple of years now.
I am looking for some professional drivers and other industry professionals, dispatchers, small companies etc, from Western Canada with interesting stories of all sorts. Men, women, teams, new drivers, you name it. I do need to get one done ASAP, as well as a number more for the upcoming year.
There isn't a whole lot involved from your end, just a short phone interview, or questions via email if you prefer, and a few digital photos of yourself with your truck/freight to go along with it.
The focus of the articles can be about virtually anything from unique loads, how you got started in the industry, how you balance being away from home with a young family, etc etc. Just something interesting.
Anyhow, if any of you are interested, it's good exposure for you and your company. I'd love to hear from you. Feel free to reply to this thread or shoot me a PM. Hope to hear from you.
Thanks!
Kathryn Thorpe Klassen
Looking for interesting stories.

Thanks!

Want winter driving info just talk to me. Today the windchill was -47F or -44C. I run all over North America and can't adjust to the temps. One day it's nice and warm (for me anyway) and the next it's so cold I can't stand it. It was worse when I was flatbeding all those years. Oh how I hated to tarp in this weather.

Beer Runner - The forum wouldn't let me PM anyone until I have at least 7 posts. I can obviously receive them since I got yours, but it wouldn't let me reply. Guess I'll have to go do some posting so that I can reply to everyone that way!
Wildkat - thanks for the message. Great pics! Would love to hear more about it. I'll be in touch shortly -
What is the legislation in Canada and Diabetes with respects to CDL? -
If your Dr. doesn't take your license from you, you're good to go. There are lots of drivers with diabetes in Canada. -
I am in the process of getting my CDL and I'm a type 1 diabetic. Yes if your doctor ok's you you can get your license. The problem is if you are from Canada you can only drive in Canada. You can not drive in the USA and they can drive in the US however they can't drive in Canada. This is for insulin dependant diabetics only. This legislation needs to be changed. It is definately being considered for change but at this point there is not enough attention on the topic which means it could still take years. However I have been in contact with the US and Canada regarding making this change. They believe if I can get a union or some higher ups to back me and support me that we can bring about this change a lot sooner. Again I'm just in the beginning stages of this but I will be in the near future putting together a petition as well as anything else I need to do this. Stay posted here and I will keep everyone up to date or send me a pm and I will give you my email if you want more info. This legislation needs to be changed and we can accomplish this. Diabetics can now control their diabetes effectively enough to safely drive with all the new advances in technology. There are many people out there that unfortunately still believe that diabetics can't get their license period.
