What? The fuel gauge, and, in many trucks id10t light is not enough? :biggrin_25513:

Next you'll want someone to fill the tanks and read out how much fuel you have every 1/2 hour or so.

I think he meant something that would signal when the truck is off and parked. More of an alarm for when someone is stealing your fuel, then a light that comes on when you run the tanks low.

Now that makes more sense. The criminals would then just cut the battery cables first. All we can really do is make it more difficult and hope they move on to easier targets.

They'd have to know it's there, first of all, and then they'd have to know how it's wired in. Doesn't have to be linked to the main cables.

But, your point is taken, and it's probably not so frequent an occurence on an individual basis to justify too much hassle.

I was just thinking a "silent alarm" kinda thing wouldn't give itself away. Thieves would just think you heard them rustling around, or decided to come back to the truck at a bad time. You've got time to call police, stick a camera up in a window, call other truckers for help, etc...

I don't want 'em moving to easier targets, I want 'em caught and punished.

There is a company advertising a deterrent system that can work by it self, or in conjunction with your home burglar alarm system; designed for rooms where valuables are stored, it is supposed to saturate a 20' by 20' room with pepper spray in a matter of seconds, then reset it self. I can picture some deserving character tampering with your fuel tank, and getting a face full.....
Of course I can also picture my dumb self forgetting to dis-arm it before attempting to fuel up. :biggrin_2553:

I like your idea of having alarms on fuel tanks. A smart thing to do is wire it to a separate battery. Even if the thieves disconnect the batteries, then it will still work. Also, a dead bolt to the battery box is a good idea as well.
