Thanks Trucker Steve, first week of school is finished, got all the class room stuff out of the way. Next three weeks we'll hopefully learn to how to drive. We actually starting driving on friday in the yard, learning shifting and straight line backing. There are only two of us in the class, so we get lots of time behind the wheel. I'll post more next weekend and let you all know how it's going.
Blessings to you all and Be safe out therealex94 Thanks this. -
Good luck with your schooling Cam. It may seem hard at times, but just relax and slow down, think about what you are doing and it will all
work out. And remember that in doing your backing drills, the slower you go the faster you will learn.......

I have a lot of habits trying to shift the same as a pickup, I found out it doesn't quite work the same, lol
practice, practice practice, will make it better.
At this point I'm more concerned about memorizing the pre-trip inspection list, but I hope in the next three weeks I'll have it down.alex94 Thanks this. -

I just started the third week of an 11-week training program at the local community college, and so far am really enjoying it. This week will focus on air brakes (40 hours), then doubles/triples, and HazMat. Next week we start hands-on practice of pre-trips and some driving simulator time. The college has an on-campus driving concourse where we'll practice coupling/uncoupling, shifting, up/down grade driving, and backing, backing and more backing. The last three weeks will be all on-road drive time.
I'm interested in May Trucking since I've heard many positive things about them, and the fact that they're based in the PacNW. I'll keep reading the threads and info here, and post questions as I have them.
Ride on,

Hello BAD, Welcome to the May Trucking Company thread! You have picked a really good program to break into the trucking industry. It seems so many make the wrong choices for one reason or another and later regret their choice of school! I hope you find the information your looking for on these threads. If I can be of any help to you don't hesitate to ask!

Thanks Trucker Steve, I appreciate your reaching out and the words of encouragement. So far I'm very happy with the training I'm receiveing. My goal was to find a school that didn't just teach me how to drive a truck, but also how to be a professional, courteous, and safe driver. I'm interested in May for similar reasons; I feel that a company that stands out in the industry for being strong on professionalism, not just in words but also in practice, would be a good match for my personal work ethic.
Thanks again, I'll be sure to keep in touch.

What you learn in school will get you your CDL test and company road test passed then you'll go out with a driver and learn how it's done in the real world.
What school are you going to?God Bless America and CAM Thank this.
