There is no real safe place to park.... Anything can happen anywhere regardless of the area your in. Truck stops & terminals are generally in the more troubled areas because the land is cheap.

My advise, If your scared already.... Then stay home. The real world of trucking will make you piss your pants & cry for mommy.

And as for parking at Wal-marts.... Your asking for trouble there as well. Sure you may have permission to park. But when the first customer complains, You best bet that it will be a wrecker called to tow the truck away!

I am with Redd on Walmarts. I use them as a last resort. I live in an apartment complex where I can bobtail home but not take my trailer home. If worse comes to worse, I'll pay for a parking spot.

Are you speaking in regards to overnight parking OTR, or during your hometime?

Thanks, Redd, but it's not a matter of being scared. It's a matter of being cautious. It is foolish to park or even walk in places that have reputations for being dangerous. Some of those places, as we have discussed, are obvious, but often you can't find out ahead of time what places do or don't have those reputations unless you ask.

I went to my police station and asked for safe places I could park my truck and they referred me to walmart and they advised me that they patrol the lots to make sure no one messes with the trucks. I live in one of the worst neighborhood in Pittsburgh. They will steal anything and so I have no choice to park at the walmart in which it about 45 mins away. I did try a couple of lots that charge for parking but they all were $80 or more and im not paying that.

Well unless you figure out how to convince some of the residents in those upscaled gated million dollar home neighborhoods to allow you to park there... Then you have no choice but to accept what is available.

One thing about those dagerous areas that you speak of.... For one, I feel more comfortable there then I do in a fancy "secure" location. Also, if you mind your own business.... Most of those people who live in the area's that you call dangerous won't even bother you....

That is unless your one of those busy bodies that has to be peaking out the window at every noise you hear.... If you do that, then you got trouble!

Thanks for the info. Can't blame you for not wanting to pay $80 for parking. You can nearly buy a gallon of gas for that these days! What kinds of places do you look for to park overnight when you're OTR?
