Just from what I've read on the forum - I think I will agree with this assessment - I think I would like to meet him sometime though - just so I could see if he is the same in person as he is in type :biggrin_25523:

That actually may not be a bad thing to do with a newbie. I would rather have a mentor picking my skills apart, making sure I do it the correct way, than a mentor that frankly didn't give a darn.

the problem IS the training period for the trainers...(it just does NOT exist in many companies)well it's one of many perhaps, not just the one..many people, guys mostly, get on board as a trainer because they see easy money. either a direct salary or a salary and "commission" if the student "passes"..

given the perpensity that swift makes newbies into trainers after a mere 3 to 6 months experience speaks volumes of swifts piss poor management system. swift however is not solely guilty of these practices, we just hear more about swift (it seems) than some of the others. some trainers get a big head that they are in charge of someone else, and push things to the max with newbies.....yes, one can always call a LEO and report the unsafe truck, but would a LEO really respond...?? maybe so...maybe not, i think that too is a coin toss.

when it comes to a full PTI, as i mentioned, when I got my first truck assigned to me at whatever company i was working for, i did do a full PTI, and write up what was wrong.. from there, daily oil checks, and tires and lights was about all i would do, and so do many others. let's also not forget, we are actually doing a PTI every-time we get out of our trucks. go to use a bathroom, or a bush, and very often, i talk a quick walk around. a proper pre trip IS SUPPOSED to be done, yes indeed, however as i stated, something can always go wrong just a little bit down the road, that the PTI did not pick up on...and this does happen..

i think in this particular situation, this particular mentor not was, but IS an @zz, we all see that. but i also believe he isn't far too long in dumping his rig and high tailing out of swift and being an o/o. i am sure other o/o's, especially a very conscientious one WILL WANT a full PTI by a student, this would be the difference between the professional o/o passing on his experience to a newbie.
but when you have one o/o that is a complete and total @zz, DO NOT make waves, and let things be....again, "some of you" need to have been driving for a while to grasp some things, like me saying, "DO NOT make waves".....your time with such a jerk will go FASTER if you just do as he wants/says, then when you get YOUR truck...?? go to town.....

i can argue this all day long.....DO NOT MAKE WAVES, LET IT GO.....

report the trainer, let the company take care of him. you will be the better person for it in the end...people like that trainer will be gone soon enough.

and finally, YES, both pilots and truckers are federally regulated, but one cannot compare the rules, regulations, laws of one industry to another....you got to stay with-in the boundaries of the industry you are working with...otherwise comparisons are invalid..and pointless.

    Rerun,

I totally disagree that the students fate is in the mentors hands. There are THREE SIDES to a story as member Big Don pointed out to me seven months ago; The mentors, the students and the truth. Fortunately with a big company like Swift, students are given chances to change mentors if the need arises. This thread and truckerdragons thread are examples of it.

Seems To Me that it was said that the jerkoff took the key to the truck so I think you need to readjust your thinking. The mentor is a jerkoff and needs a foot in his #$$$%%
