I just starting reading this thread it's got a lot of great info in it about rates, weights etc. It seems like most of you guys are independent and run your own trucks and authority. Have any of you ever worked for any of the larger o/o bulk carriers like autumn or bruce oakley?

Grain pups, by the way nice to see another Kansas trucker on this thread. It's been a long time since I've seen or even talked about Doonan pups.

Welcome to the hopper thread, jellybean. I've never worked for any of the bulk carriers, just my own little operation.

Are you guys able to stay busy year round hauling wheat, corn etc? If not how do you guys keep yourselves busy during the slow months are you able to find other hopper freight or do you guys pull vans or flats?

I usually stay busy year round. Haul to ethanol plants and feedlots during winter. December and January are usually fairly slow. I don't pull different trailers just a hopper.

Welcome to the hopper/dump thread, jellybean. I mostly stay purty busy hauling corn/beans during harvest and Jan./Mar. contract months for farmers and i haul feed ingredients, fertilizer and mineral for some local mills and dairy farms when things get kinda slow(like now:biggrin_25526:).

Wheathauler and R.W.,ya'll get much snow? Weatherman says 4 to 6 inches here tonight:biggrin_25521:.

Highside, where's the top gona be for this dang B-meal? It's $385-$400/ton fob and still easing up here,i don't see how folks can keep justifying feeding it at this price.Something gotta give, boys, elevators around here are contracting corn and beans for $5.30 and $13.10 for fall delivery. They keep trying to buy acres from each other, there'e no telling where this will end. I hauled a load of meal into a dairy yesterday and the farmer showed me the cash price on it,($387.50/ton on a 27.06 ton load=$10485.75 for 1 load, that's purty steep:biggrin_2554:

Tell me about it! I'm losing some SBM loads due to DDG being used in the rations instead. I'm gonna have to raise my cargo insurance pretty soon if this stuff gets any more valuable!

    dairyman Thanks this.
