I was over at the CFI drivers forum and came across this story.
Not sure if it violates any board policy, but figured it would be helpful for people like me who happened to stumble on here woefully naive about the industry...
This all happened on 2.21.07 between 2:30 and 7:30 p.m.
I was called by a recruiter from Wal-Mart (he claimed that anyway) He told me he received my resume i placed on the web from his assistant, and wanted to offer me a job as CDL driver for Wal-Mart. Get this, he said that I only needed 90 days of experience and that he would call his friend at Swift and get me hired there with them, he told me not tell them about my conversation with him, as far as being employed with in the 90 days as a driver for wal-mart, he further said I should keep in contact with by calling him once a week and that as soon as the 90 days were completed he would bring me on board with Wal-mart, smells kinda fishy. Am I being scammed by a Swift recruiter. I just finished driving school and really need your opinions and advice on this.
---------------------
I called Wal-mart HQ and spoke to a real nice young lady that told me it is a SCAM BY SWIFT!!!! I am the second person today to ask about this fabulous job offer, the Snakes name is ----- and he can be reached at ----- and his E-mail is ----- I have called him and told him what a despicable rat, fink lair he is, this really burns me up, so every one beware of this low life scum and the scum company of Swift he works for.
-----------------------
I spoke to his buddy over at Swift ----- and I told him how sorry I felt for a company that had to resort to such tactic's, he told me that ------ is an independent recruiter, ya rightany way I told him what I thought of a person and a company that has to do business that way. Now I wonder if that's what they do to drivers and prospective drivers just think of the way they do their daily business.
The person I spoke to at Wal-Mart in the transportation division told me that the requirements are driving OTR with in the last three years and you have to have run 50,000 miles in each of those three years and you must have a life time of at least 250,000 just to apply and be considered.

You will find all kinds of sneaky tactics out there not just from SWIFT, but other like JB Hunt and so on.. They have a hard time getting "good" drivers to come to work for them so they resort to "word manipulation" to get you in...
-
I too had this guy call me, only he was looking for JBH. The thing that made me lauch, is that my CV that I placed online shows I am Class B. He must have never looked at the resume as he was very rude and almost hung up in my face when I told him I was Class B.... Nice dude for sure, I would hate to be his son or daughter!

I have a whole post on walmart and jb hunt, they jb lied to 6 of us guys,2 from me,and 2 from ny and 2 other states. you can read the post inch for inch what the recruiters said to us,they never said it was jb until it was time to bus trip out.

Well I guess I was lucky that they were upfront....I guess!

When I was working LTL 3 of my co-drivers tried to get on
at Walmart. All three had the qualifications as far as miliage and
experiance. However Walmart required them to take a test to
be considered. What I gather is it was a kind of psycological test.
Its kind of difficult to work nights for a LTL company for years
without getting some kind of an attitude/psycological problem
and sure enough only one of them got hired. I never applied because
I was told that on your first year you hardly ever get off on weekends.
My family is more important to me than a job. -
I guess if they put you on the Wal-Mart dedicated fleet, then "technically" they hired you to work for Wal-Mart. Still a bunch of sneaky ########, though.

hehehe...yeah, whenever I get a phonecall from someone offering a trucking job, I always ask if they're recruiting for JB Hunt or Swift...they have to tell you the truth if you ask them a direct question. I had one that called, promising me the moon, and I asked if he was JB Hunt...he told me yes, and I told him "no thanks". He asked why, and I told him because JB Hunt has the worst retention rate of just about any company out there...that and their trucks are slower than anyone else's.
