From what I have heard.....good pay, stay out a long time, and difficult to get hired on with...I chatted with a driver that moved stage/show equiptment a while back and thats what he said..

 

Same here,,,ran into a guy in Joplin at the Petro.......he has been with them for about 15 years...........loved it ....but when you go you go.........bump the dock hang out for sound check at the most ad off to bed.......great pay though

 

and god help you if your late !! that was the one thing he stressed "we can not be late"..

 

Ain't that the truth......those boys run wide open and cross no scale houses
the way they look at it is they get to the location they'll sleep then

they get paid real well to run outlaw

 

and if the show can't go on because of YOU, YOU will be looking for work real quick !!

 

Honestly I don't think you'd get the chance to look for work least ways not in trucking ever again

 

There are about 6 companies here in Nashville that hire drivers on a 1099 contract basis. You have to have some expeirence with a larger vehicle and class A or B. They will put you through a quick training program at an average cost of $1500 for 4 or 5 days and then you act as a back up driver at a minor wage for a period. After a while they will assign you an "act" usually regional at first (just a few days ast a time). These brokering companies (place that trained you and hooks you up with the "act" needing a driver) take about 20% cut off the top for about 5 years.......then your a free agent, but you can decide to stay. Most just bypass the Driver Brokering Companies and find there own customers. With that said, my neighbor just works for a flat fee every week he is on the road and is a company employee......but he came from tour bus company and did not require any training. They ride those guys hard! You much more then a driver.......more like a janitor 30%, Butler 30%, Driver 40%
